This SSD is a very economical way to boost the performance of any computer using a mechanical hard drive. In addition, it is incredibly easy to install. The MacBook Pro I have is a computer that someone sold to me for $80 at my university. I was working on a group project one day and found myself surrounded by Mac users. While we were putting our project together in the library and I became frustrated with Windows updates preventing me from doing my work, I told my partners that I love Macs and intend to buy one after graduation but cannot currently afford one. One of my partners told me that she had a Mac but she could not get it to boot and that if I could get it to work, she would sell it to me for $80. Turns out, all I needed to do is boot the Mac into internet recovery mode with Cmd+R, reinstall Lion, and gradually upgrade back up to High Sierra through the App Store. After I got everything working, I found that I loved the computer but found that many of its operations were frustratingly slow and that the internal drive was on its last leg. Still, I feel that I got a really killer deal for a decent computer. I eventually saved up enough cash to buy some upgrades for the Mac so I can use it for schoolwork. In addition to the SSD, I also bought two 4GB sticks of RAM to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB of RAM. Side note: I only noticed a marginal performance increase with the RAM upgrade alone, which I did before the SSD installation. Anyways, back to the drive. All I had to do was purchase an SATA to USB transfer cable (there are tons on Amazon), a Torx T6x2 screwdriver (also tons on Amazon but I got mine at True Value Hardware for $4), and the drive itself. After getting the stuff I needed, I installed SuperDuper onto my Mac to clone my hard drive while the SSD was plugged in via USB. There is plenty of documentation and information online about the software. It took a little under two hours to transfer all my files and make the solid state bootable. After the transfer was complete, I simply removed the failing 320GB hard drive and replaced it with the shiny Crucial SSD. After the initial boot, ran "sudo trimforce enable" in the terminal to enable SSD trim, restarted once more, and began to toy around with my freshly updated computer. I instantly noticed a speed increase. It is no exaggeration to say that my computer is ten to twenty times faster. For example, this MacBook Pro used to take two to three minutes to open Microsoft Word 2016. It is a common problem on the forums for the Mac version of Microsoft Office. Now, it only takes between 5 and 7 seconds to open, even with other applications running in the background. All of the other applications on my computer open almost instantly after clicking. I also noticed that my battery life has improved and the laptop runs a lot cooler than it had before. It feels like I have a new computer. This simple, $97 upgrade has brought new life to my MacBook Pro and will more than enable me to use this computer comfortably and productively for another academic year and hopefully far beyond.

Decided to replace my Lenovo Z580 HDD with SDD. Settled for Crucial because their website was the only one which allowed me check if it was compatible with my old laptop. ( Others may have been compatible but there was no way of checking). Installation was pretty simple. All details were clearly available in their documentation. Being a novice, my first time installation of any hard disk was pretty smooth; thanks to the product. Only setback was it requires an hard drive adapter cable, which I had to buy separately. Wish they had included it as well. Performance has been good. I don't have benchmark results but my laptop used to hang a lot after upgrading to windows 10 because of high disk usage. Switching to Crucial SDD has bought the disk usage to very low numbers. Overall satisfactied with the product.

Appears to be a very good drive and quite a reasonable value for the money. After installing and migrating Windows 10 to the new drive there is a noticeable speed increase for boot times and program startups. One big con: The "free" Acronis software you can download is straight up useless crippleware. If you want to do a fresh install of Windows you are fine and won't need anything except your Windows install media but if you want to migrate it's a big hassle. Acronis will ONLY do a full drive migration and does NOT support migrating only your windows partition unless you buy the full version. It also installs 2 autorun services when you install the software. Why do you need that crap installed for a program you will probably only ever use once? After a bunch of googling and trying two programs that would not work I found AOMEI Partition Assistant. Did the migration job and then I used it to delete the old windows partition and resize my storage partition to use all of that drive.
I have a 7 year old desktop tower that had a traditional hard drive. Ever since updating to Windows 10, the boot up was sooooooo slow. It was time to update to a solid state drive (SSD). I chose this brand because their website had information showing that it is compatible with my exact brand and model of desktop. They also had excellent instructions on their website for how to clone my old hard drive to the new one. PROs: - Easy installation - Easy to clone old hard drive (needed some extra devices / products to help with this) - It was like my computer was exactly the same - all my programs and files were just there with the cloning process and now its super fast. - The cloning software on Crucial's site is called Acronis. Not sure if this more recently available than some of the other reviews on here. - Lightening fast boot up - Bios instantly recognized the SSD as the boot drive. I didn't have to do any additional configuration. - Information on Crucial's website was very helpful CONs: - The cloning process involves some additional equipment like a SATA to USB cable that you'll use just one time. I bought this one: Sabrent USB 3.0 to SSD / 2.5-Inch SATA Hard Drive Adapter [Optimized For SSD, Support UASP SATA III] (EC-SSHD) - It wasn't clear from Crucial's information that I would need to purchase a converter kit from the 2.5 inch drive to a 3.5 inch bay. ADVICE: Every desktop and laptop is different, so the extra equipment you will need may be different from mine. 1. Be sure to back up all of your files prior to doing anything. 2. With the power to your computer OFF and UNPLUGGED, open the case and identify where your current hard drive is located. Figure out how it is mounted. Mine had rails that screwed in to the front of the bay and attached to the hard drive. 3. You'll probably need a converter kit if you're installing it on a desktop computer. Just search for 2.5 to 3.5 hard drive converter and you should find some options. 4. Buy a new SATA cable so you are getting the maximum performance from your new SSD. I bought this one: Monoprice 18-Inch SATA III 6.0 Gbps Cable with Locking Latch and 90-Degree Plug - Blue 5. Cloning is the easiest way to go, which means your operating system, files, software and everything need to be transferred from your old hard drive to your new one. The Acronis software from Crucial's website made this easy. There were a few little quirks with this: a. The SSD has to be plugged into the PC, otherwise you cannot install the software. This is where the SATA to USB cable comes in real handy. b. The software gives you the options of automatic or manual settings for cloning. On the SSD, you do not need a partition. There is no performance gain to this, so if your old hard drive is partitioned, you might want to choose the manual settings. I did the manual settings, just to make sure the software was reading the correct drives. c. When you start the cloning process, you'll get a message that the PC needs to be restarted. You have to let it restart. When it does, the computer will go into a mode that is controlled by the Acronis software and it will start the cloning process. There is a check box to "Shut down when complete". Leave that checked. d. Depending on how big your old hard drive is, this process will take SEVERAL HOURS. I started mine before I went to bed and everything was done when I woke up. It was probably about 3 hrs. Anyway, my point is that it's not something you'll finish in one evening.
