Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Quality and Performance
Many customers have praised the MDD 4TB Surveillance Hard Drive for its reliability and performance. One user mentioned, "I was a little apprehensive after using other white label drives with poor results, but this drive seems to be in excellent working condition. The SMART status shows all tests have passed and an Unraid pre-clear completed without any issues." This highlights the drive's ability to handle rigorous testing and continuous operation without hiccups.
Another user appreciated the drive's seamless integration into their DVR setup, stating, "I have a few DVRs running, and it's always good to know you can check history. My insurance company likes them too." This speaks to the drive's ability to provide consistent and reliable video recording, which is crucial for surveillance purposes.
Storage Capacity and Usability
The 4TB storage capacity is a standout feature for many users. One reviewer noted, "I liked that it records several days of recordings when recording all channels." This makes it an excellent choice for those who need extended recording periods without worrying about running out of space.
However, some users faced challenges with compatibility. One customer shared their experience, saying, "I bought this drive months ago when the hard drive in one of my Mac computers failed. I tried it on that Mac and another, it would not mount. Tried disk utility but it can't even see the drive. My computer tech came by yesterday and we tried the disk on his PC computer. Same thing, it won't even mount. Total garbage." This suggests that while the drive excels in DVR and surveillance setups, it may not be the best choice for general-purpose computing or Mac systems.
Durability and Warranty
The 2-year warranty is a significant selling point for many buyers. One user mentioned, "They work great and come with a warranty of 2-5 years depending on models. The price can't be beat anywhere." This added assurance of durability and support makes the drive a low-risk investment for those looking to upgrade their surveillance systems.
However, another user raised concerns about the drive's labeling, stating, "It looks like a sticker has been put over the original drive labeling. Very suspicious." While this doesn't necessarily indicate a problem with the drive's performance, it does raise questions about transparency and authenticity.
Conclusion: Is the MDD 4TB Surveillance Hard Drive Worth It?
The MDD 4TB 64MB Cache 5900RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5-inch Internal Surveillance CCTV DVR Hard Drive is a solid choice for those looking to upgrade their surveillance systems. Its 4TB storage capacity, 24/7 operation capability, and low power consumption make it an excellent fit for DVR and CCTV setups. The 2-year warranty adds an extra layer of confidence for buyers.
However, it's essential to note that this drive may not be suitable for all use cases. Some users reported compatibility issues, particularly with Mac systems, and concerns about the drive's labeling. If you're using it for general-purpose computing or need it to work with non-DVR systems, you may want to explore other options.
Final Verdict
If you're in the market for a reliable, high-capacity hard drive optimized for surveillance systems, the MDD 4TB Surveillance Hard Drive is a great choice. Its performance, durability, and warranty make it a standout option in its category. Just be sure to double-check compatibility if you plan to use it outside of a DVR or CCTV setup.

Comments from Amazon:
I wish the 4th hard drive was the same series as the other 3 as I wanted matched components in the array . It was fussy with a zero array - so I just did a bunch of disks configuration along with a single larger backup drive. I ordered them separately so maybe I just ordered the wrong one ? Anyways they work great and come with a warranty 2-5 years depending on models . The price can't be beat anywhere ...
