When I first got the new M4 Mac Mini, I knew that I'd want a vertical stand for it. When I saw this one with all the ports and slots, I thought that would be great. When I saw it had an internal NVME slot... Even better. Now, it IS a nicely made product and works really well, but it's a tad unfortunate that it's a USB-C 3 interface. Why? Because the built-in NVME slot will never hit the speeds that TB4 or TB3 can do. I installed a spare 256G NVME drive -- nothing special -- and I was able to hit nearly 900MB/s transfers, which is pretty much the practical limit for the interface. Mind you, that's not slow, but it's less than half the speed that a TB3 interface can hit. So if you get this, just be mindful of the limitations. I checked performance plugged into the Mac's front USB-C ports vs. the rear TB4 ports and found no difference. Unless you have a reason for not doing so, I'd recommend plugging the dock into one of the Mac's front USB-C ports and save the rear TB4 for things that really can use it. I plugged in a 32G PNY microSD card and hit 22MB/s write, 81MB/s read. Other cards could probably do better, but I'm just excited to have an SD slot again. All the other ports are welcome and work great. No fiddling with settings or anything. When the dock is plugged in and there's an NVME installed, the base warms up a bit (82F), but nothing alarming. The rubberized bumper on the base for holding your phone is a nice addition, but one I won't be using. All in all, it's a nice looking, functional addition to my desk. I just wish it was TB3 or higher.
