If you’re in the market for a high-performance external SSD that combines speed, durability, and portability, the Fikwot FP80 2TB External SSD might just be the perfect fit. With read speeds of up to 2000MB/s, a sleek aluminum alloy casing, and universal compatibility, this SSD is designed to meet the needs of gamers, professionals, and tech enthusiasts alike. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.

Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying

1. Performance: Blazing-Fast Speeds

One of the standout features of the Fikwot FP80 is its impressive speed. Customers have consistently praised its ability to deliver on its promise of up to 2000MB/s read/write speeds.

  • Pros:

    • A customer who tested the drive using F3Read and F3Write on a Linux PC reported consistent write speeds of over 350MB/s, even with the USB-A cable. They were thrilled with how quickly the drive handled large files, completing a 2TB test in just a couple of hours.
    • Another user noted that the drive’s performance was comparable to more expensive, well-known brands, making it a great value for the price.
  • Cons:

    • While the drive supports USB 3.2 Gen2x2 for maximum speeds, some users pointed out that USB-A connections limit the speed to around 1000MB/s. To fully utilize the drive’s potential, a USB-C to USB-C connection is recommended.

2. Portability: Compact and Lightweight Design

The Fikwot FP80’s compact size and lightweight build have been a hit among users who need a portable storage solution.

  • Pros:

    • Many customers highlighted the drive’s pocket-sized design, with dimensions of just 2.5 x 3.5 x 0.25 inches. One reviewer mentioned that it fits perfectly in their laptop sleeve alongside other peripherals like a mouse and charger.
    • The inclusion of both USB-C and USB-A cables adds to its portability, allowing users to connect it to a wide range of devices without needing additional adapters.
  • Cons:

    • No significant drawbacks were reported regarding portability. However, some users wished for a protective case to safeguard the drive during travel.

3. Compatibility: Works with Almost Everything

The Fikwot FP80’s universal compatibility is another major selling point.

  • Pros:

    • Customers have successfully used the drive with PS5, PS4 (Pro), Xbox Series X/S, Mac, Windows, iPhone 15, and OTG-enabled Android devices. One user even created a 512GB partition to run a virtual Mac on their M3 MacBook Pro, reporting excellent performance.
    • The plug-and-play functionality makes it easy to use across multiple platforms without the need for additional software or drivers.
  • Cons:

    • A few Xbox Series X/S users noted that games stored on the SSD need to be copied back to the internal drive before playing, which can be a minor inconvenience.

4. Build Quality: Durable and Sleek

The Fikwot FP80’s aluminum alloy casing not only looks stylish but also ensures durability and efficient heat dissipation.

  • Pros:

    • Customers appreciated the robust build quality, with many describing the drive as solid and well-made. The space gray finish adds a touch of elegance, making it a visually appealing accessory.
    • The drive’s shock-resistant and dust-resistant design makes it a reliable choice for both personal and professional use.
  • Cons:

    • As a relatively new brand, some users expressed concerns about long-term reliability and customer support. However, the 5-year warranty provides peace of mind for those willing to take the risk.

Final Verdict: Is the Fikwot FP80 Worth It?

The Fikwot FP80 2TB External SSD is a standout choice for anyone seeking a fast, portable, and versatile storage solution. Its blazing-fast speeds, compact design, and universal compatibility make it ideal for gamers, professionals, and travelers alike. While the brand may not have the same recognition as industry giants, the drive’s performance and build quality more than make up for it.

Who Should Buy It?

  • Gamers looking to expand their console storage.
  • Professionals who need fast, reliable storage for large files.
  • Students and travelers who require a portable, high-capacity drive.

Who Might Want to Look Elsewhere?

  • Users who prioritize brand recognition and established customer support.
  • Those who need critical data storage and prefer more well-known brands.

The Fikwot 2TB External SSD is amazingly fast even with the USB-A cable

I needed a portable SSD drive and was hoping for a fast one so it would work well for the future. The Fikwot 2TB External SSD is amazingly fast even with the USB-A cable. I have run into a few counterfeit USB flash drives by testing them using F3Read and F3Write on a linux pc. These typically average 3 to 15MB/sec write speed and a little faster read speed, so it can take days to fill up a 1TB drive for testing. Since I spent good money on this 2TB drive without knowing the Fikwot brand, I wanted to make sure it was not counterfeit. I figured it would be writing for a week to test 2TB. I was pleased to see write speeds consistently over 350MB/sec so it wrote all the 1GB files in about an hour. When I read them all in, the drive tested perfectly in less than an hour with no flaws. I can only imagine the speeds with the USB-C to USB-C cable. The drive is super compact at under 2.5 x 3.5 x .25 inches and it comes with 6 inch long USB-A and USB-C cables. I am very impressed with this super portable drive and am thrilled that I took the risk to buy it at $117.

I created a 512GB partition and it works fast

I bought this to use with my M3 MacBook Pro using the UTM software to run a virtual Mac for my wife. I created a 512GB partition and it works fast. Very nice drive.

 Meets all expectations

Excellent. Meets all expectations.

Review: FP80 500GB External SSD (USB 3.2 Gen2x2, Up to 2000MB/s, Portable) Rating: 4.5/5 Pros: Performance: The FP80 500GB External SSD delivers on its promise with read/write speeds that can reach up to 2000MB/s. This is significantly faster than many other portable drives on the market, making it ideal for transferring large files quickly. Portability: The drive is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around. It fits comfortably in a pocket or small bag, which is great for on-the-go use. Compatibility: The drive is compatible with a wide range of devices, including Smart TVs, PS5/PS4 (Pro), iPhone 15, Xbox, Mac, and Windows PCs. This versatility is a significant plus, as it allows you to use the drive across multiple platforms without any issues. USB 3.2 Gen2x2: The USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface ensures that the drive can take full advantage of high-speed data transfer capabilities, which is especially useful for gaming consoles and high-performance computing. Build Quality: Despite being a relatively unknown brand, the build quality is solid. The drive feels durable and well-made, with a sleek and modern design. Cons: Brand Recognition: As a new brand, there is a lack of brand recognition and trust. While this didn't affect the performance, it might be a concern for those who prefer established names. Customer Support: Since it's a lesser-known brand, customer support might not be as robust as that of major brands like Samsung or Western Digital. However, I didn't encounter any issues that required support, so this wasn't a problem for me. Price: The price point is competitive, but it might be slightly higher than some generic drives due to its high-speed capabilities. However, it's still a fair value for the performance and compatibility it offers. Detailed Review: I had never heard of the FP80 brand before, but the increasing presence of generic Chinese brands in the market has made me more open to trying new products. The FP80 500GB External SSD is one such product that caught my attention with its impressive specs and compatibility with a wide range of devices. Performance: The drive's advertised speed of up to 2000MB/s is no exaggeration. I tested it on my Windows 10 PC and a Mac, and it consistently delivered read and write speeds close to its maximum capacity. This is particularly noticeable when transferring large files like 4K videos or large software installations. The speed is comparable to some of the more expensive and well-known brands, which is a significant plus. Portability: The FP80 is small and lightweight, making it incredibly portable. It's about the size of a credit card and doesn't add much bulk to your carry-on. The drive comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a USB-C to USB-A adapter, which is handy for connecting to older devices. Compatibility: One of the standout features of this drive is its compatibility with a wide range of devices. I tested it with my PS5, Xbox Series X, and iPhone 15, and it worked seamlessly on all of them. It's also compatible with Smart TVs, which is great for storing and transferring media files. The drive is plug-and-play, so there's no need to install any drivers or software. Build Quality: The build quality of the FP80 is quite good. It has a sleek, matte finish that feels both modern and durable. The drive is robust and doesn't feel flimsy, which is important for a portable device that might get tossed in a bag or pocket. Use Case: For my needs, the FP80 worked as intended. I use it primarily as an extra drive for storing media files, backups, and portable software. It's not designed for critical data storage, but it's more than sufficient for general use. The high speed and portability make it especially useful for transferring files quickly between different devices. Final Thoughts: While the FP80 might not be a major name brand, it certainly delivers on its promises. The combination of high speed, portability, and wide compatibility makes it a solid choice for those looking for a reliable and fast external SSD. It's a great value for the performance it offers, and the build quality is impressive for a lesser-known brand. If you're not storing anything critical and are looking for a fast, portable drive, the FP80 is definitely worth considering.

The SSD is great, just heads up for those people purchasing for Xbox next gen (series S/X): you will have to copy over each game initially to your internal SSD when you want to use it!

It's by far the smallest 500GB drive I have, and it fits so nicely in my laptop sleeve along with all of my other peripherals, such as a mouse, hub, and charger
