Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying

When it comes to performance, the ACASIS external hard drive has received mixed reviews. Many users appreciate its affordability and ease of use, but some have noted that the transfer speeds are slower than expected.
-
Pros:
- Affordable Backup Solution: Several customers praised the drive for being a budget-friendly option for backing up files. One user mentioned, “It’s a cheap backup, and it’s easy to plug in. No issues with getting it to connect.”
- Plug-and-Play Convenience: The drive’s plug-and-play functionality was a hit among users. “Worked right away, no issues,” said one reviewer who used it for 24/7 recordings.
-
Cons:
- Slow Transfer Speeds: A common complaint was the drive’s sluggish performance. One user stated, “The time to transfer files is extremely slow for something being made in 2024. 28/MBs is abysmal when you’re trying to move lots of data to a backup drive.”
2. Build Quality and Durability
The ACASIS external hard drive boasts a durable metal and ABS plastic construction, which has been well-received by users. Its compact and lightweight design makes it highly portable, while the shockproof and anti-pressure features provide added protection.
-
Pros:
- Sturdy and Portable: Customers appreciated the drive’s robust build and portability. “Easy to use and great amount of storage. Portable and discreet,” said one reviewer.
- Shockproof Design: The internal shock sensor and ramp loading technology were highlighted as key features that protect the drive from accidental drops or impacts.
-
Cons:
- Chinese Branding: Some users found the Chinese wording on the drive when it mounts to be a minor inconvenience. However, it can be easily renamed. “It has a scary Chinese name but works great for the price,” noted one customer.
3. Storage Capacity and Usability
The drive offers 500GB of storage, which is sufficient for most users. However, some customers were surprised to find that the usable space was slightly less than advertised.
-
Pros:
- Ample Storage: Many users found the 500GB capacity to be more than enough for their needs. “Great amount of storage,” said one reviewer.
- Easy to Use: The plug-and-play functionality and wide compatibility made the drive user-friendly. “No extra bloatware software,” mentioned a satisfied customer.
-
Cons:
- Usable Space Less Than Advertised: A few customers were disappointed to find that the usable space was around 465GB instead of the advertised 500GB. “I paid for 500 GB and only received 456 for some reason,” said one user.
4. Value for Money
Overall, the ACASIS external hard drive is considered a good value for money, especially for those on a budget. While it may not offer the fastest speeds or the highest storage capacity, it delivers reliable performance for everyday use.
-
Pros:
- Affordable Price: Many customers felt that the drive was worth the purchase. “Good for the $. No complaints!” said one reviewer.
- 3-Year Warranty: The included warranty provided added reassurance. “If I get at least a year out of it doing 24/7 recordings, then it’s worth the purchase,” noted another user.
-
Cons:
- Not Ideal for Heavy Use: Some users felt that the drive was better suited for light to moderate use rather than heavy-duty tasks. “If you need an affordable backup, this could work. Just don’t be in any hurry,” advised one customer.
Conclusion: Is the ACASIS 500GB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive Worth It?
The ACASIS 500GB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive is a solid choice for anyone in need of an affordable and reliable storage solution. Its sleek design, durable build, and plug-and-play functionality make it a convenient option for everyday use. However, its slower transfer speeds and slightly reduced usable storage space may be a drawback for users with more demanding needs.
Final Verdict:
- Best For: Budget-conscious users, students, and casual users who need a portable and reliable backup solution.
- Not Ideal For: Professionals or heavy users who require faster transfer speeds and larger storage capacities.
If you’re looking for a no-frills external hard drive that gets the job done without breaking the bank, the ACASIS 500GB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive is worth considering. Just keep in mind its limitations and adjust your expectations accordingly.

Comments from Amazon:
I purchased the 250GB model, and the intent was for Blue Iris recording. Worked right away, no issues as it's been going strong doing 24/7 recordings. Will have Chinese wording when the drive mounts, but you can rename it and no extra bloatware software. Will see if it will last but if I get at least a year out of it doing 24/7 recordings, then it's worth the purchase.
Easy to use and great amount of storage. Portable and discreet.
Works well, but I paid for 500 GB and only received 456 for some reason.
It has a scary Chinese name but works great for the price.
Muy buen artículo. Lo que esperaba
This hard drive does its job, but does it SLOWLY. It's a cheap backup, and is easy to plug in. No issues with getting it to connect. However the time to transfer files is extremely slow for something being made in 2024. 28/MBs is abysmal when you are trying to move lots of data to a backup drive. If you need an affordable backup, this could work. Just don't be in any hurry.
Good for the $. No complaints!!
