Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying

Performance: Speed That Impresses

One of the standout features of the Addlink G55 is its incredible speed. A customer who tested the drive on a PCIe Gen4 motherboard reported sequential read speeds of nearly 7,000 MB/s, which is impressive even without the full Gen5 bandwidth. They noted, "The read speed being at just short of 7000 MB/s is no fault of the drive as the motherboard I purchased only supports gen 4." This highlights the drive’s ability to deliver exceptional performance even on older hardware.

For users with PCIe Gen5-compatible systems, the G55 is expected to hit its advertised speeds of up to 10,300 MB/s, making it a future-proof investment for those planning to upgrade their systems.

Build Quality: Beefy Heatsink and Sleek Design

The included heatsink is another feature that customers appreciate. One reviewer mentioned, "The beefy heatsink on this should keep the SSD cool under extreme conditions." This is particularly important for high-performance SSDs, as they tend to generate significant heat during intensive tasks like gaming or video editing. The heatsink not only ensures thermal stability but also adds a sleek, professional look to the drive when installed on a motherboard.

The ultra-slim 2.3mm design is another plus, making it compatible with a wide range of systems, including laptops and compact builds.

Compatibility: Ready for Future Upgrades

While the Addlink G55 is optimized for PCIe Gen5, it’s also backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 slots. This flexibility is a major advantage for users who may not yet have a Gen5-compatible motherboard but want to future-proof their setup. As one customer put it, "At least I am ready for any upgrades later." This makes the G55 a smart choice for those planning to upgrade their systems in the near future.

Durability and Warranty: Peace of Mind

With a 1.5 million-hour MTBF and a five-year warranty, the Addlink G55 is built to last. Customers appreciate the reliability and peace of mind that comes with such a robust warranty. The use of 3D TLC NAND flash memory further ensures data integrity and long-term performance.

Potential Drawbacks

While the Addlink G55 has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:

  • Heatsink Requirement
For optimal performance, a heatsink is recommended. While the included heatsink is praised, users without one may experience thermal throttling during heavy workloads.
  • Price Point
As a PCIe Gen5 SSD, the G55 is priced higher than Gen4 or SATA SSDs. However, most customers agree that the performance justifies the cost.

Final Verdict: Is the Addlink G55 Worth It?

The Addlink G55 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD is a powerhouse of speed, reliability, and innovation. Whether you're a gamer, content creator, or AI enthusiast, this SSD delivers the performance needed to handle demanding tasks with ease. Its future-proof design, robust build quality, and impressive speeds make it a standout choice in the crowded SSD market.

While the price may be a consideration for some, the G55’s performance and durability make it a worthwhile investment for those seeking top-tier storage solutions. If you’re ready to elevate your system’s capabilities, the Addlink G55 is a solid choice that won’t disappoint.

The beefy heatsink on this should keep the ssd cool under extreme conditions. The read speed being at just short of 7000 MB/s is no fault of the drive as the motherboard I purchased only supports gen 4. (The first board I was contemplating purchasing was a better/newer chipset and was gen 5 but then budget demons caught up to me and I had to go for a B760m-plus wifi instead. I did not realize that until after I had ordered the gen 5 drive.. but at least I am ready for any upgrades later :) ) Great drive seems solid and is attractive on the motherboard with that big heatsink.
