RiDATA E801 256GB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 SSD Review: A Budget-Friendly Speed Boost
If you're looking to upgrade your system's storage without breaking the bank, the RiDATA E801 256GB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 SSD might just be the solution you need. This SSD promises impressive read speeds of up to 2,100MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,200MB/s, making it a solid choice for gamers, content creators, and everyday users alike. Built with 3D NAND technology and featuring LDPC coding, it ensures both speed and reliability.
But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.
Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Performance and Speed
One of the standout features of the RiDATA E801 SSD is its performance. Customers have praised its ability to deliver fast read and write speeds, even in older systems. One reviewer noted that it reached over 1,500MB/s read and 1,200MB/s write speeds, which is more than enough for most daily tasks. Another user mentioned using it in an older Lenovo laptop with a 1x PCIe slot, and it still performed admirably, breathing new life into their aging device.
However, some users pointed out that while the speeds are impressive for the price, they don’t quite match the advertised maximums. This is a common trade-off with budget SSDs, but for most users, the performance is more than sufficient.
Ease of Installation
The RiDATA E801 SSD is designed to be user-friendly, and many customers appreciated how easy it was to install. One reviewer mentioned using it to upgrade a small laptop, stating that it worked perfectly from the start. However, they did note that neither the laptop nor the SSD came with a hold-down screw, which made installation slightly inconvenient.
Another user shared their experience of using an adapter board to connect the SSD to a PCIe Wi-Fi slot on an older laptop. Despite the unconventional setup, the SSD was recognized as a bootable drive, and they successfully cloned their original drive to the new SSD. This level of compatibility and flexibility is a big plus for users with older systems.
Durability and Build Quality
Durability is a key concern for any storage device, and the RiDATA E801 SSD seems to hold up well. Customers have reported no issues with the drive’s performance or reliability, even after extended use. One reviewer expressed hope that the SSD would last more than three years, which is a reasonable expectation given its 3-year warranty.
The shock-resistant design also adds an extra layer of durability, making it a reliable choice for laptops and portable devices.
Value for Money
Perhaps the most consistent praise for the RiDATA E801 SSD is its value for money. Many customers highlighted its affordability compared to other NVMe SSDs on the market. One user even mentioned that they could have opted for a 512GB model for just $10 more but found the 256GB version to be more than enough for their needs.
For those on a tight budget, this SSD offers a great balance of performance and price. It’s not the fastest or most premium option out there, but it delivers solid performance at a fraction of the cost.
Conclusion: Is the RiDATA E801 SSD Worth It?
The RiDATA E801 256GB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 SSD is a fantastic option for anyone looking to upgrade their storage without spending a fortune. Its fast read and write speeds, easy installation, and durable design make it a reliable choice for both beginners and experienced users.
However, it’s worth noting that the SSD doesn’t always reach its advertised maximum speeds, and the lack of a hold-down screw can be a minor inconvenience. But for the price, these are small trade-offs.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly SSD that delivers solid performance and reliability, the RiDATA E801 is a great buy. It’s perfect for upgrading older systems, expanding storage in laptops, or simply boosting your system’s speed.
Final Verdict: Highly recommended for budget-conscious users who want a reliable and fast storage upgrade.

Comments from Amazon:
This is a good quality and affordable 1 TB NVMe SSD. It's a generic brand but still can reach over 1500 mbps read/1200 mbps write speed that's reasonably fast to run majority of daily tasks. Hope it can last more than 3 years of usage.
Used this to upgrade the HD space on a small laptop. I don't care how fast it is, just need the space. This has worked fine from the beginning. I could have bought the 512GB for only 10 bucks more, but this is enough memory for this little laptop. I have to scrounge up the hold down screw 'cause neither the computer nor the memory had one. That was the biggest hassle with installing this memory.
Value for money ssd
Works great even in a 1x PCIe slot on an old Lenovo 14w 81WQ. I used an adapter board to connect this NVMe drive to the PCIe WiFI slot on the laptop. It fits great and is recognized as a bootable drive by the system. I was able to clone the original drive to this one and then set this drive to the primary boot device in the BIOS. This is a really great upgrade that brought my old laptop back to life! Recommended!
Great buy, works great!
I have used Ridata for years and never had any issues, this little M.2 Drive was no exception, great quality and is working fine in an Acer Laptop Computer.
Works great.
