fanxiang S101 4TB SSD Review: A Reliable and Affordable Storage Upgrade
If you're looking to breathe new life into an aging laptop or desktop, the fanxiang S101 4TB SSD SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive might just be the upgrade you need. With read speeds of up to 550MB/s, this SSD promises faster boot times, quicker file transfers, and improved overall system performance. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.
Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Performance and Speed
One of the standout features of the fanxiang S101 SSD is its speed. Customers have praised its ability to significantly reduce boot times and improve system responsiveness. One user mentioned that their Dell 3555 laptop, which was previously sluggish, now boots up quickly and runs like a dream. Another customer noted that the SSD’s performance was a game-changer for their Acer Predator 15 9G-593, making it feel like a brand-new machine.
However, some users pointed out that the SSD requires initial formatting before use. One reviewer shared their experience of struggling to get the drive recognized on a Windows machine until they formatted it using a Mac. While this isn’t a dealbreaker, it’s something to keep in mind if you’re not familiar with disk partitioning.
Storage Capacity and Versatility
With 4TB of storage, the fanxiang S101 SSD offers plenty of space for games, applications, media, and backups. A small business owner shared that they use two of these drives in a RAID configuration for weekly backups, and they’ve been fast and trouble-free for six months. Another user upgraded their Mac Powerbook from a 1TB drive to this 4TB SSD, solving their storage woes and restoring their laptop’s functionality.
The SSD’s compatibility with various systems, including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS, makes it a versatile choice for different users. Whether you’re upgrading an old laptop, building a gaming PC, or setting up a NAS, this drive seems to handle it all.
Durability and Reliability
Built with 3D NAND TLC chips, the fanxiang S101 SSD is designed for durability and long-term reliability. Customers have reported no errors or issues during extended use, even in demanding scenarios like RAID setups or gaming PCs. One reviewer mentioned that they’ve been using the SSD in their HP Elite notebook Folio 9470m laptops without any problems, highlighting its consistent performance.
However, a few users noted that the SSD doesn’t come pre-formatted, which can be a minor inconvenience. While this isn’t a flaw in the product itself, it’s worth mentioning for those who prefer a plug-and-play experience.
Ease of Installation
Most customers found the fanxiang S101 SSD easy to install, especially in laptops and desktops with a 2.5-inch drive bay. One user shared that the installation process was straightforward in their Dell 3555, though they had to troubleshoot a bit when loading Windows from a USB flash drive. Another reviewer appreciated how quickly they were able to get their Mac Powerbook up and running after swapping out the old drive.
That said, a few users encountered issues with the SSD not being recognized initially. As mentioned earlier, this was due to the drive needing to be formatted first. Once that was done, the SSD worked flawlessly.
Final Verdict: Is the fanxiang S101 SSD Worth It?
The fanxiang S101 4TB SSD is a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their storage without breaking the bank. Its blazing-fast speeds, massive storage capacity, and durable build make it a reliable option for gamers, professionals, and casual users alike. While the need for initial formatting might be a minor inconvenience for some, the overall performance and value far outweigh this drawback.
If you’re dealing with slow boot times, limited storage, or an aging system, this SSD could be the upgrade you’ve been waiting for. Based on customer feedback, it’s a high-performing, affordable, and versatile storage solution that delivers on its promises.

Comments from Amazon:
Six months ago I bought two of these 1 TB SSDs. I manage a small business shop and I am constantly looking to save time and/or money. I have used these two drives in a RAID config for weekly backups. I always test any new component in a backup scenario before I trust them in a "LIVE" scenario. So far they have been fast and trouble free with no errors reported.
I tried 2 cable connectors and 2 enclosures and the SSD was not recognized. I tried the same cable enclosure with another disk and verified the cable and enclosures were fine. My first though was it was dead, but researching a bit more found the issue. The issue was that the disk had no partition or any kind or initial setup (all blank). Windows just won't recognize it at all. A MacOs machine was able to detect the uninitialized disk and was able set basic partitioning to FAT (probably a Linux based machine would also detected the disk). Now Windows machines are able to detect. I will be checking how it works and updating the review if I found any issue.
Works great in my old Acer Predator 15 9G-593, and with 2 HP Elite notebook Folio 9470m laptops.
good drive........must be formatted before using
My mature Mac Powerbook with a similar 1Tb drive started locking up, not having any more disc space. Double to 2tb disc space, and I am back with a function as l laptop in no time. SSD are fast, reliable, and really improve and laptop performance. It was quick, easy, and I was back running in minimal time. Don’t hesitate to buy this disc if you are suffering with too minimal disc space. Let something else be your problem in life, not a full disc drive !!!
They are great performers for upgrading office pcs. And as mass storage in my nas as well as game strorage in my gaming pc. Will continue to buy
Simple to install in a Dell 3555. Loading windows from a USB flash drive a little more challenging but successful. Now this relic has fast boot up, plenty of storage and works like a dream. This drive delivers a lot of performance at a great price.
