Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Performance: Fast and Reliable
One of the standout features of the Oemgenuine BC901 SSD is its impressive speed. Customers have reported read speeds of up to 4700MB/s and write speeds of 2700MB/s, making it a top choice for gamers and professionals alike. One user paired it with an adapter for PCIe 4x and noted that it worked flawlessly for their gaming setup, delivering reads above 300MBps on an 11-year-old machine. This SSD is a great option for those looking to breathe new life into older systems.
Compatibility: A Mixed Bag
While the SSD is compatible with a wide range of devices, some users have reported issues with older systems. One customer mentioned that the drive was not compatible with their computer and had to return it. However, others have successfully used it in Dell Micro PCs and laptops, though they needed adapters for non-2230 slots. If your system doesn’t support the 2230 form factor, you’ll need to purchase an adapter, which is a minor inconvenience but worth the effort for the performance boost.
Durability and Condition: Like New
Many customers have praised the SSD for appearing brand new, with minimal usage recorded in SMART stats. One user noted that the drive had only a couple of hours of use time, which was likely from their own installation process. Another speculated that these drives might be pulls from unsold devices, but they still perform like new. This makes the Oemgenuine BC901 a cost-effective alternative to pricier SSDs on the market.
Ease of Installation: Straightforward but Requires Attention
Installation is generally straightforward, but it’s important to ensure your system supports the 2230 form factor or that you have the necessary adapters. One user shared that they successfully replaced a failed SSD in their Dell 5482 2-in-1 laptop with this drive, highlighting its ease of installation. However, if you’re not familiar with M.2 SSDs, you might need to do some research or seek professional help.
Final Verdict: Is the Oemgenuine BC901 Worth It?
The Oemgenuine OEM Hyn BC901 256GB M.2 PCI-e GEN 4X4 NVME SSD is a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their storage without breaking the bank. Its blazing-fast speeds, compact design, and reliable performance make it ideal for gaming, professional work, or general use. However, compatibility issues with older systems and the need for adapters in some cases may be a drawback for some users.
Strengths:
- Exceptional read and write speeds.
- Compact and versatile design.
- Appears brand new with minimal usage.
- Affordable compared to other NVMe SSDs.
Weaknesses:
- Limited compatibility with older systems.
- Requires adapters for non-2230 slots.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly SSD that delivers high performance, the Oemgenuine BC901 is a great option. Just make sure your system supports the 2230 form factor or be prepared to invest in an adapter. Overall, this SSD offers excellent value for its price and is a worthy upgrade for most users.

Comments from Amazon:
The drive was cheap and works better than expected. Its definitely brand new. Ran disk info and it had only a couple of hours of use time which was me installing windows. Speeds are fantastic. Read 4700MB/s and writes at 2700MB/s.
It was not compatible with my computer I had to return Only compatible with newer PC
I purchased several of these to fix a batch of Dell Micro PC's that I had acquired in a lot of electronics. These all worked and worked well. They are the short ones, so if your PC doesn't have short slots (like the Dell Micro PC's do not), you'll need the adapters. You can pick up M.2 adapters very cheap and I like to have a few around just in case. Good luck!
I'm guessing that these are pulls from some device that didn't sell. Their loss is our gain. Looking at the SMART stats for the drive, you can see that some data was read and written. Probably when an image was first written to it and then when it was erased after being pulled from the device. Still a new device.
Fast shipping, and the item appeared new, but, well, you know ...
Worked out well as a much lower cost alternative with replacing a failed SSD (original) in my Dell 5482 2-in-1 laptop. Installation was also fairly easy.
Paired with an adapter for pcie 4x for EA WRC which barks at you for not using an SSD. On an 11 year old machine I'm getting reads above 300MBps which is all I need out of the thing. No complaints thus far!
