ORICO 128GB SATA SSD 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive Review: A Budget-Friendly Upgrade for Your System
If you're looking to breathe new life into your aging desktop, laptop, PS4, or even a NAS system, the ORICO 128GB SATA SSD 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive might just be the upgrade you need. With its 3D NAND flash technology, aluminum shell for heat dissipation, and impressive read/write speeds of up to 450MB/s and 400MB/s, respectively, this SSD promises to deliver faster boot times, quicker file transfers, and smoother multitasking. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.
Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Performance and Speed
One of the standout features of the ORICO 128GB SSD is its speed. Customers have praised its ability to significantly improve system performance, especially when upgrading from traditional HDDs. One user shared their experience with a PS4 Pro, stating, "I was able to install a new PS4 operating system on this drive and migrate my PS4 games and stored information/save files to this drive without issue." The SSD’s SATA III interface ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices, making it a versatile choice for gamers, professionals, and casual users alike.
However, some users noted that while the drive performs well initially, its QLC memory can lead to slower write speeds as the drive fills up. One reviewer mentioned, "The buffer PSLC is usually around 50GB but drops to 5GB when the drive is nearly full." This is something to keep in mind if you plan to use the drive for heavy workloads or large file transfers.
Durability and Build Quality
The aluminum shell of the ORICO SSD not only looks sleek but also provides excellent heat dissipation and durability. Customers have appreciated its shock-resistant design, which makes it a reliable choice for both stationary and portable use. One user even replaced an old hard drive in their security system NVR with this SSD, stating, "It's so nice to not have the spinning sound anymore." The drive’s compact and lightweight design also makes it easy to install in various devices, from laptops to gaming consoles.
Value for Money
At its price point, the ORICO 128GB SSD offers fantastic value for money. Many customers have highlighted its affordability, with one reviewer calling it a "fantastic bang for your buck." Another user mentioned, "Can't beat that price for a 1TB," though it’s worth noting that this review might refer to a different model or capacity. For those looking to upgrade multiple devices, this SSD is a cost-effective solution that doesn’t compromise on performance.
Ease of Installation
The ORICO SSD comes with installation screws and a screwdriver, making the upgrade process straightforward even for beginners. Customers have found it easy to install in a variety of devices, including laptops, desktops, and gaming consoles. One user shared, "I will probably be picking up more of these to refresh my relatives' laptops or other old devices in need of some faster storage." The plug-and-play nature of this SSD ensures a hassle-free experience.
Storage Capacity
While the 128GB capacity is sufficient for basic applications, HD videos, and game files, some users might find it limiting for more demanding tasks. However, for its intended use as a budget-friendly upgrade, the storage capacity is adequate. As one reviewer put it, "Met my requirements for additional storage space with pretty good write speeds."
Conclusion: Is the ORICO 128GB SATA SSD Worth It?
The ORICO 128GB SATA SSD 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive is a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their system without breaking the bank. Its impressive speed, durable build, and ease of installation make it a versatile option for a wide range of devices. While the QLC memory may result in slower write speeds as the drive fills up, this is a minor drawback considering the overall performance and affordability.
Final Verdict: If you’re in the market for a budget-friendly SSD that delivers reliable performance and durability, the ORICO 128GB SSD is a great pick. Whether you’re upgrading a gaming console, laptop, or desktop, this drive offers excellent value for money and a noticeable improvement in system performance.

Comments from Amazon:
Can't beat that price for a 1tb, I tossed it in my old security system NVR as the drive was old and it's so nice to not have the spinning sound anymore.
Buen SSD aunque la memoria es QLC si maneja buenas velocidades, el buffer PSLC es usualmente de 50GB que baja hasta 5GB cuando esta mas o menos lleno, entonces diria que esta bien para el precio que maneja
Met my requirements for additional storage space with pretty good write speeds ..
Ah funcionado muy bien
Excelente producto
Works as expected
I have had my PS4 Pro since 2017 with the same spinning and slow 1TB hard drive. I knew it was time for an upgrade and found this drive to be a suitable pick, being plenty fast enough and having a 1TB capacity for right around forty dollars! Fantastic bang for your buck and just shows how much cheaper per GB storage is these days than even half a decade ago. I was able to install a new PS4 operating system on this drive and migrate my PS4 games and stored information/save files to this drive without issue. I will probably be picking up more of these to refresh my relatives' laptops or other old devices in need of some faster storage in this 2.5" drive format!
