Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Speed and Performance
One of the standout features of the ORICO 2TB Magnetic Portable SSD is its blazing-fast transfer speeds. Customers have been blown away by how quickly it moves large files. One reviewer shared, "I moved like 5 gigs right off, and it was just done. I was like, wait, did that even work?" This speed is particularly beneficial for videographers and photographers working with high-resolution files.
However, it’s worth noting that achieving the full 2000MB/s speed requires a device that supports USB 3.2 Gen2*2. Some users with older devices or incompatible ports may not experience the maximum speed.
Build Quality and Durability
The aluminum alloy body has received widespread praise for its durability and premium feel. One user compared it to a cheaper alternative, stating, "The metal body of the ORICO SSD feels robust and durable, offering a premium touch that instills confidence in its longevity." The SSD is also designed to be dust and drop-resistant, though most users aren’t keen on testing this feature themselves.
Magnetic Attachment and Compatibility
The magnetic attachment is a hit among users, especially those with iPhones. One reviewer mentioned, "The magnetic back is pretty nice so I can just stick it to the back of my phone while recording." However, this feature is limited to devices with MagSafe compatibility. For non-MagSafe devices, the included magnetic ring works well, but it’s not as seamless.
Compatibility is another area where the ORICO SSD shines. It works with a wide range of devices, including laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones. However, some users have reported issues with older devices or those lacking USB-C ports.
Ease of Use and Setup
For the most part, the ORICO SSD is plug-and-play, making it easy to use for both tech-savvy individuals and beginners. However, some users have faced challenges. One reviewer noted, "You have to buy a separate connector that’s not included to even connect it to your phone." Additionally, the SSD comes preformatted with exFAT, which is compatible with both Apple and Windows devices, but some users may need to reformat it for specific use cases.
Storage Capacity and Value for Money
With 2TB of storage, the ORICO SSD offers plenty of space for large files, making it ideal for creatives who work with high-resolution media. One user shared, "Between my iPhone 15 Pro Max and this external hard drive, I've got plenty of room before I run out."
However, the SSD’s price point has been a point of contention for some. While many feel it’s worth the investment, others find it a bit pricey, especially if they don’t fully utilize its advanced features like ProRes HDR recording.
Final Verdict
The ORICO 2TB Magnetic Portable SSD is a powerful and versatile storage solution that delivers on its promises of speed, durability, and convenience. Its blazing-fast transfer speeds, robust build quality, and magnetic attachment feature make it a standout choice for professionals and creatives.
However, it’s not without its drawbacks. Compatibility issues with older devices, the need for additional connectors in some cases, and the relatively high price point may deter some users.

Comments from Amazon:
After purchasing a cheap SSD from AliExpress for my Blackmagic 6K, I decided to upgrade to the ORICO 512GB Magnetic Portable SSD, and I couldn’t be happier with the decision. Both SSDs perform adequately, but the ORICO stands out for several reasons. First, the write speeds on the ORICO SSD are significantly faster, which is crucial when working with 4K 120 fps ProRes HDR footage. It handles the large file sizes effortlessly, ensuring smooth recording without dropped frames or lag. This speed boost has made my workflow much more efficient, especially during intensive shooting sessions. Secondly, the build quality is a noticeable step up. The metal body of the ORICO SSD feels robust and durable, offering a premium touch that instills confidence in its longevity. It’s a far cry from the plastic casing of the cheaper alternative, which didn’t feel as sturdy or reliable.
I got this on sale and it was worth it. Super fast read and write speeds. Works perfectly with my Pixel 9 Pro XL with a magnetic case. This is perfect for more anime and music on the go. All my music is flac and high quality. Which takes up a lot of space. I'm loving this purchase.
This portable SSD is compact, lightweight, and magnetically attaches to your iPhone or any MagSafe device. The package includes a portable SSD, a data cable, a metal ring, and a user manual. The cable is short and rigid, featuring a USB-C connector on both ends, allowing for connection between the phone and the SSD device. The device itself is crafted from a mix of plastic and aluminum, making it lightweight yet durable. The side magnets are exceptionally strong and require considerable effort to detach them from the phone. The SSD drives come preformatted with exFAT (FAT64), making them compatible with all Apple and Windows devices. There is 953 GB of free storage available, and the advertised transfer speed of 20 Gbps is more than sufficient for recording video directly onto the drive. However, I recently discovered an important limitation: you can only record directly to this SSD if your iPhone has a ProRes mode in its camera settings. Unfortunately, this feature is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro (and Pro Max). Since my iPhone 16 does not have this feature, I am unable to test it. While I can't record videos directly to this portable SSD, I can still use it to transfer documents and photos between my iPhone and iPad. After recording, I can manually transfer videos to the drive. There's plenty of storage space for large files, and the transfer speed is quite fast. Overall, if you're looking for a small, compact SSD with MagSafe capability and high-speed transfers that works seamlessly with your iPhone 15 Pro or 16 Pro, this is a great option. However, it is a bit pricey if you're only looking for a standalone SSD and do not have ProRes HDR capability on your phone.
What can I say it’s an SSD that magnets to my phone and laptop. Lots of storage and transfers quickly
I bought this hoping to plug and play. This is not the product for that. You have to buy a separate connector that’s not included to even connect it to your phone. When I did finally get the second piece and plug it in, no lights no connection nothing. I searched online, they said it will show up in files as a new drive. It did not. Also, people in videos says you have to record, stop, and transfer through files on iPhone. This is not streamlined. This was a waste of money and poorly advertised as it seems it a lot less than they claim. I would not recommend this. I am returning it.
El producto me acaba de llegar y ya venia de uso. La caja venía manipulada y ya abierta. No vale lo que pagué. Solicité el reembolso. No lo compren. Ni siquiera lo conecte a mis dispositivos por temor a un virus.
I recently got in to making videos and was quickly losing space on my computer. I realized I needed more space so I found this guy for a GREAT price on here and purchased it. It has been pretty darn good for all my needs so far. I was especially surprised with the transfer speed. It's been a long time since I've had to use an external hard drive, but I remember them being kind of slow. Now, it's practically instant. I moved like 5 gigs right off and it was just done. I was like wait, did that even work? I grabbed a completely different device, downloaded it, and it was perfect. It was all there and there was nothing at all wrong with it. I was kind of shocked. It is extremely fast. Now I am able to make as many dumb videos as I want. Between my iPhone 15 pro max and this external hard drive, I've got plenty of room before I run out so I am free to record any dumb thing that comes to my mind. All the shower thoughts and mom jokes included. I was attracted to the 4K ProRes HDR record and store, because I currently have an iPhone that makes use of that codec. It's so nice not have to do a second transfer. I want my videos to be pretty and stay pretty. The magnetic back is also pretty nice so I can just stick it to the back of my phone (as long as the case is off) while I am recording. I am not the most technically advanced person out there, but I know some stuff. I purchased this one because it says it has fast transfer speeds, is SSD, and is USB-c. I needed USB-c because I transfer a lot from my phone to my computer, vice versa, and they are both USB-c. Plus USB-c is just superior in speed than regular USB 1/2/3.0. So far it has worked for all my needs. All that's really left to test is it's longevity. The listing states that it has dust and drop resistance, but I am not going to throw this around and test that out. If it drops on accident, I hope that statement holds true. I have honestly never heard of the Orico brand, but I am sure I will find out how good they are over time. It had other great reviews online, and with Amazon currently with 4.4 stars. That also helped me decide to get this particular hard drive. It does come with a dual ended USB-c. I hope this review helped you. If it did, could you please let me know by hitting the 'Helpful?' button? I would certainly appreciate it! :)
