DRAM-less was a concern, but not anymore. It was slow to copy everything, but after that was completed it has been great. Replaced my main SSD on my laptop. It actually boots faster and than the Gen 3 it replaced, in the Gen 3 slot. For a laptop drive, hands down great, for a desktop as secondary storage it is going to be great. As a desktop main drive, depends on what you are doing, it's going to be great or average if you use it to transfer large files to. Try to find a deal on it, I used a 20% off coupon. It's a similar drive to many others on the market, same controllers and flash memory, all Chinese. Has a 5 year warranty, and Orico has been around for a long time.
Drive is working well on Mac mini M1 using thunderbolt 4. Enclosure is the Ugreen. The Orico is coming in at 2800MB/s write and 3000 MB/s read. I also have both Samsung Eco 990 plus and a WD Black drive. Both of those drives are measuring 3100MB/s write and read. So despite the specs on the Orico, it is slightly slower (about 10% less). It is also cheaper. Would I buy it again? Yes, as long as it is much cheaper. Orico was $191 after coupon for 4TB while the others are $250ish.
Like most NVME M.2 drives it's all about the advertised speeds and that's why you get it. I've gotten quite a few over the last few years and a lot didn't live up to the marketing fluff. However this Orico does!!! I benched it a couple times and couldn't believe the read speeds I was getting ALMOST 9000mbps. What an amazing read rate. Of course you have to take into account that your motherboard has to support "Gen-4" hard drives otherwise you'll get 1/2 that or less. So if you're thinking about buying something with 4TB that moves out like a rocket ship then you won't be disappointed with this Orico drive. Also the price was incredible. You could spend twice this amount and not get anywhere near the speeds this drive will give you. I know, I've been let down in the past. This is definitely a good buy.
I really like how easy it was to install the SSD hard drive into the computer. Very fast transfer rate, 6.5 Gig movie from my C: Drive to the Orico drive in about 5 seconds. Highly Recommended!!!
Using it for a Steam/Storage drive. It's hooked up to my second NVME spot so it's not hitting 7400mbps but 6800 is still more than enough for what I need it for. And that's not so much the SSD's fault, it's the board's. Anything on that secondary slot it's gonna be slower than the one that's closest to the CPU. All in all, great and worth the price. Crossing fingers that it last's long. 5-year warranty is pretty legit tho.
I put this SSD inside a Satechi enclosure and connected it to my Mac mini m4. The Blackmagic disk speed test showed a write speed of 3,900 mb/s and a read speed of 4,100 mb/s. It's plugged into a thunderbolt port. This SSD is amazing. I bought the 2 terabyte version. This is my first Mac OS system. When I plugged it in I needed to "erase" the drive which brought up the format option. I chose the APFS (Apple File System). Very easy task to get it usable. Color me satisfied.
awesome little drive, super fast, great for majority of applications from gaming, personal computers, and personal homelab/servers. running 2 of these in a MS-01 and its giving excellent performance for a good price. (compared to higher priced alternatives)
