Seagate 1TB Mobile HDD SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 2.5" Internal Bare Drive (ST1000LM035) Review

If you're looking to upgrade your laptop's storage or replace a faulty hard drive in your gaming console, the Seagate 1TB Mobile HDD (ST1000LM035) might be the perfect solution. This ultra-thin, high-capacity internal hard drive is designed for modern laptops, portable devices, and even gaming consoles like the PS4 and PS3. With its 7mm z-height, SATA 6Gb/s interface, and 1TB storage capacity, it promises to deliver reliable performance and ample space for your files. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.

Pros and Cons of the Seagate 1TB Mobile HDD

Performance and Compatibility

One of the standout features of this drive is its versatility. Customers have successfully used it in a variety of devices, from laptops to gaming consoles. One reviewer mentioned, "Bought for my PS4, works great. A+++ recommend 10 out of 10." Another user shared their experience using it in a PS3, stating, "It worked perfect in there as well. Was able to reinstall all system files and update the PS3 like I just bought it from Sony." This level of compatibility makes it a great choice for users looking to upgrade multiple devices.

However, not all experiences were flawless. One customer noted, "Unfortunately, a new hard drive could not fix my laptop." While this isn’t necessarily a fault of the drive itself, it’s worth considering that hardware issues in your device might not be resolved by simply replacing the hard drive.

Ease of Installation

Many users praised the drive for its ease of installation. One reviewer said, "Good, fast, and easy to connect. As expected." Another user shared, "Dropped it into my PS4 Pro and uploaded the file, and the game is like new again." This plug-and-play functionality is a major plus for those who aren’t tech-savvy or don’t want to deal with complicated setups.

Durability and Packaging

While the drive itself is durable and performs well, some customers expressed concerns about the packaging. One reviewer stated, "They had no box, and it was delivered with only computer cellophane-type packaging. No protection at all." This lack of protective packaging is a significant drawback, especially considering how sensitive hard drives can be to physical shocks. Fortunately, the reviewer added, "I was really surprised to see it work as these hard drives go bad easily if bumped or dropped." Despite the poor packaging, the drive arrived in working condition, but this is still a risk that buyers should be aware of.

Warranty and Authenticity Concerns

One of the most concerning issues raised by a customer revolves around the warranty and authenticity of the product. A reviewer shared, "The hologram on the drive they tell you not to remove or else the warranty is void. The reason is the hologram covers the manufacturing date, which in my case was May of 2020, and the date I received this is May of 2024." This raises questions about whether the product is truly new or refurbished. The reviewer added, "This drive after 2 hours of use is already giving me errors." While this seems to be an isolated incident, it’s something to consider when purchasing, especially if you’re looking for a brand-new drive.

Value for Money

Despite some concerns, many customers feel that the Seagate 1TB Mobile HDD offers excellent value for money. One user said, "I think this is a good price for a good hard drive." The combination of high storage capacity, slim design, and compatibility with a wide range of devices makes it a cost-effective solution for those in need of reliable storage.

Conclusion: Is the Seagate 1TB Mobile HDD Worth It?

The Seagate 1TB Mobile HDD (ST1000LM035) is a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their laptop, gaming console, or portable device. Its ultra-thin design, high storage capacity, and ease of installation make it a versatile and practical option. However, there are some drawbacks to consider, such as the lack of protective packaging and concerns about product authenticity and warranty.

Final Verdict

  • Pros
High storage capacity, slim and lightweight design, easy installation, versatile compatibility, and good value for money.
  • Cons
Poor packaging, potential issues with product authenticity, and isolated reports of early failures.

If you’re willing to take a slight risk with packaging and ensure you’re purchasing from a reputable seller, the Seagate 1TB Mobile HDD is a reliable and affordable solution for your storage needs. For most users, it’s a worthwhile investment that delivers on its promises.

Bought for my ps4 works great A+++ recommend 10 out of 10

Arrived before it said it would! A+++ shipping. Bought for my ps4 works great A+++ recommend 10 out of 10

 As expected

Good, fast and easy to connect. As expected.

 Thanks

Dropped it into my Ps4 pro and uploaded the file and the game is like new again. Thanks

So I pulled it from the PS 4 and used it in my PS3 that also had a bad HDD stuck in update mode

Bought for a PS4 with a bad hard drive which it worked perfect for, but I found out one of 2 of my USB ports was bad and needed both to reinstall system files. So I pulled it from the PS 4 and used it in my PS3 that also had a bad HDD stuck in update mode. It worked perfect in there as well. Was able to reinstall all system files and update the PS3 like I just bought it from Sony. My only problem is the way it was packaged. They had no box and it was delivered with only computer cellophane type packaging. No protection at all and I was really surprised to see it work as these hard drives go bad easily if bumped or dropped. Fortunately it seems fine. Packaging is the only reason it missed 5 stars

unfortunately a new hard drive could not fix my laptop but I think this is a good price for a good hard drive

The hologram on the drive they tell you not to remove or else the warranty is void

I normally do not write reviews, but I despise deception. The hologram on the drive they tell you not to remove or else the warranty is void. The reason is the hologram covers the manufacturing date which in my case was May of 2020 and the date is received this is May of 2024. This is a deception on the sellers part. There is no way to determine if product is new or used, Look elsewhere to buy new, This drive after 2 hours of use is already giving me errors.
