Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Performance and Speed
One of the standout features of the Seagate BarraCuda Pro is its 7200 RPM speed, which significantly improves system performance. Customers have reported noticeable differences in load times and overall system responsiveness. One user mentioned, "Just got done doing an entire rebuild, not my first one... Ended up having to replace the hard drive as well. This made a bigger difference than doubling the RAM." Another user highlighted the drive's ability to handle heavy workloads, stating, "Everything loads at lightning speed, and the increase in cache stabilizes the system."
However, some users noted that the drive can be noisy under heavy workloads. One reviewer shared, "El único detalle que sí note alarmante, es que hace mucho ruido como si estuviese renderizando videos... Pareciera que hiciese uso de la tarjeta gráfica." While this isn't a dealbreaker for most, it's something to consider if you're working in a quiet environment.
Ease of Installation and Compatibility
The 2.5-inch form factor and 7mm slim design make the BarraCuda Pro incredibly versatile and easy to install. Customers have praised its compatibility with a wide range of systems, from laptops to desktops. One user shared, "Used in a PC recently purchased. Easy to install, no issues." Another customer installed the drive into an Asus Vivobook for their college-bound son, stating, "Installed into Asus Vivobook without any issues. He is up and running and is very happy."
Reliability and Durability
Seagate's reputation for reliability shines through with the BarraCuda Pro. Many customers have expressed confidence in the drive's long-term performance. One reviewer said, "Barracuda PRO are excellent hard drives. I have already bought more than one. I have no doubt that it is a good purchase and an alternative to solid-state disks." The 5-year limited warranty and 2-year data recovery services further enhance its appeal, providing peace of mind for users.
However, a few customers encountered issues with verifying the drive's authenticity using the serial number on Seagate's website. One user shared, "Had an issue with Seagate as the serial number would not work on their website to verify authenticity and warranty. But was able to use the chat support feature, and the tech sent me all the documents stating it is authentic and has a 5-year warranty." While this was resolved, it’s worth noting for potential buyers.
Use Cases: Gaming, Editing, and More
The BarraCuda Pro excels in demanding tasks like gaming, video editing, and data-intensive applications. One user mentioned using the drive as a boot drive for Fedora Core Linux, paired with a mirrored ZFS volume for added reliability. They said, "Working well as my Fedora Core Linux boot drive... The new and old combo is working well, and I have a safety net for failure." Another user praised its performance during system installations, stating, "Aunque solo lo he instalado, pude notar que el tiempo de instalación del sistema operativo y los demás programas como Office, Adobe Máster, y la transferencia de datos fue muy rápida."
Conclusion: Is the Seagate BarraCuda Pro Worth It?
The Seagate BarraCuda Pro 1TB Internal Hard Drive is a reliable, high-performance storage solution that delivers on its promises. With its 7200 RPM speed, 128MB cache, and 5-year warranty, it’s an excellent choice for gamers, content creators, and professionals alike. While the drive can be noisy under heavy workloads, its performance and durability more than make up for this minor drawback.
Final Verdict:
- Pros
Exceptional speed, easy installation, reliable performance, and a long warranty. - Cons

Comments from Amazon:
Just got done doing an entire rebuild, not my first one.. Ended up having to replace the hard drive as well. This made a bigger difference thand doubling the ram. While cpu's can max out on the information they can take at one time, the increase of rpm's means the hard drive provides the information faster. There is also no such thing as too much cash or cashe. This gives you cashe without costing you cash. Bottom line, everything loads at lightening speed and the increase in cashe stabalizes the system. I was going to over-clock the processor and had already addressed cooling to do so. Zero need to do after installing this.
Just what you expect a good new Hard Drive. Had an issue with Seagate as the serial number would not work on there website to verify authenticity and warranty. But was able to use the chat support feature and the Tec sent my all the documents stating it is authentic and has a 5 year warranty .
Used in a pc recently purchased. Easy to install, no issue's.
Barracuda PRO are excellent hard drives. I have already bought more than one. I have no doubt that it is a good purchase and an alternative to solid state disks.
Son is in college and working on degree program and didn't want to have an external drive to carry around. Installed into Asus Vivobook without any issues. He is up and running and is very happy. He does very little gaming on the system, so has not really relayed anything back about this.
Working well as my Fedora Core Linux boot drive. I then created another primary partition for home and made-up a mirrored ZFS volume with a used Intel enterprise class SSD from eBay. The new and old combo is working well and I have a safety net for failure. This drive, the other mirrored SSD and four spinning disks all live in a 6 bay HD enclisre that teplaces a cdrom bay. Everything is still working well a couple months after reconfiguration of my 5 year old Dell XPS 8300 desktop hardware.
