Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
Performance and Speed
One of the standout features of the Toshiba X300 PRO is its impressive speed. Many users have praised its performance, especially when compared to other non-SSD drives. One customer noted, "Probably the fastest non-SSD drive I've ever owned. Games like Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones load up quick AF!" This makes it an excellent choice for gamers and professionals who need fast access to large files.
However, some users mentioned that while the drive is fast, it can be louder than expected during operation. One reviewer stated, "It is louder than I expected tho," which might be a consideration for those who prioritize a quiet workspace.
Noise Levels
For users transitioning from older, noisier drives, the Toshiba X300 PRO is a breath of fresh air. One satisfied customer shared, "I can't even hear this drive, and maybe a very slight noise during read/write if even that." This makes it a great option for those who value a quiet working environment.
On the flip side, some users reported occasional noise, particularly during heavy usage. While not a dealbreaker, it’s something to keep in mind if noise sensitivity is a concern.
Durability and Reliability
The Toshiba X300 PRO is built to last, with a Mean Time to Failure (MTTF) of up to 1.0 million hours. Most users have found it to be a reliable storage solution. One reviewer simply said, "A high-quality hard drive. What more can I ask for?"
However, there have been isolated reports of drives failing prematurely. One user shared a frustrating experience: "In less than a month, the drive doesn't want to mount after using it very little." While such cases are rare, they highlight the importance of backing up data regularly, regardless of the drive’s reputation.
Value for Money
At its price point, the Toshiba X300 PRO offers excellent value for professionals who need high-capacity storage. One user remarked, "This drive is great for the price. It's a perfect gaming drive." The 20TB capacity ensures you won’t run out of space anytime soon, making it a worthwhile investment for heavy users.
That said, the drive’s premium price tag might be a deterrent for casual users or those with more modest storage needs. Additionally, some users were disappointed by the lack of mounting screws, as one reviewer pointed out: "This drive came with no mounting screws. Thankfully, the enclosure did though."
Final Verdict
The Toshiba X300 PRO 20TB Internal Hard Drive is a powerhouse designed for creative professionals and power users who demand high performance and reliability. Its massive storage capacity, fast speeds, and advanced protection features make it an excellent choice for tasks like video editing, gaming, and data management.

Comments from Amazon:
Probably the fastest non-SSD drive I've ever owned. Just finished installing all my games on to it yesterday. So far every game from Black Ops 6 to Sifu to Indiana Jones has loaded up quick AF! No Laggy McTaggert bs. No playing a game on my phone while waiting for desktop to say "press start". None of that....but it is still early in its life. So we'll see. It is louder than I expected tho.
the existing hard drive in my desktop was loud and making noises and wanted a quality hdd that is quiet. I can't even hear this drive, and "maybe" a very slight when read/write if even that. so far, very happy with the purchase and no more annoying noise from the hdd. the 14 tb is at a good price and not much more than the 12 tb, and I believe the 12 to 16 tb are sealed/helium filled.
A high quality hard drive. What more can I ask for?
Paid alot of money for this internal hard drive and in less than a month the drive doesn't want to mount after using it very little and only just to strore and backup previously captured video and photo files. Bought the data rescue but beware of the third party recovery service it's not from Toshiba and they say if you request data returned on somethihng other than cloud based they will charge you for the new drive while throwing away the drive that is non working, I'm thinking if they can't recover the data I can't even make Seagate send me a replacement drive and have lost over $400. BTW the Seagare data recovery service sold with the Toshiba hard drive is NOT honored as it must be a Seagate Drive and no other brand is covered under this warranty. ONLY Seagate drives can use the Seagate data recovery service.
I put this into a USB-C enclosure. I noticed that this drive came with no mounting screws. (Thankfully the enclosure did though.) Seems as fast as you can get for a USB-C hard drive. Can't wait until NVME SSD's in the 18 TB range become available / affordable. Until then, this will do.
This drive is great for the price. It's a perfect gaming drive. It is, however a little noisy sometimes... definitely not a deal killer though. I am very happy with it.
I got the 20 TB disk and the box got a little beaten up but the disk inside was fine. I tested copying 6TB from my old disk and transfer was fine, normal speed. Also no noise at all, overall I’m very with the purchase
