Transcend 1TB MTE255S M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4x4 SSD Review: Speed Meets Reliability?

The Transcend 1TB MTE255S M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4x4 SSD is a high-performance storage solution designed for gamers, content creators, and professionals who demand speed, reliability, and advanced cooling. With sequential read speeds of up to 7,400 MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,500 MB/s, this SSD promises to handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.

Pros and Cons: What Do Customers Say?

Speed and Performance

One of the standout features of the Transcend MTE255S is its blazing-fast speeds. Many users have praised its ability to deliver on the promised performance metrics. One reviewer noted, "The speeds are incredible. I tested it with both the manufacturer’s tool and third-party software, and it consistently hit the advertised read and write speeds." Another user mentioned that the SSD is perfect for video editing, as it handles large files effortlessly.

However, some users reported minor speed fluctuations during performance tests. One reviewer attributed this to background processes in the operating system, stating, "The minimal variations in speed are likely due to what the OS is doing during the test. Overall, the performance is stellar."

Ease of Installation and Setup

The installation process for the Transcend MTE255S is straightforward, according to most users. One customer shared, "The installation was a breeze. My UEFI recognized it immediately, and setting it up in Windows was hassle-free." However, it’s worth noting that the SSD does not come with a mounting screw, which some users found inconvenient. "The screw isn’t included, so make sure your motherboard has one," advised a reviewer.

Durability and Reliability

Durability is where opinions diverge. While some users have had no issues with the SSD, others reported failures within a short period. One user shared, "My drive started failing after 1.5 years of use, with S.M.A.R.T errors increasing rapidly. I managed to rescue most of my data, but it was a close call." Another reviewer expressed frustration, stating, "It didn’t even last a year. The 5-year warranty feels worthless when the drive fails so quickly."

On the flip side, some users have had positive experiences with Transcend’s customer service. One customer mentioned, "I had some complications with the RMA process, but Transcend reached out and resolved the issue. Their customer service is great."

PS5 Compatibility

For gamers, the Transcend MTE255S is marketed as a compatible upgrade for the PlayStation 5. Some users have successfully used it in their PS5 consoles, praising its performance. However, one reviewer reported, "I used it on my PS5, and it broke after a few months. It’s disappointing for such an expensive product." This inconsistency in reliability has left some gamers hesitant to recommend it.

Cooling and Heat Management

The integrated graphene heatsink is a standout feature, designed to keep the SSD cool during intense usage. Most users appreciated this addition, with one stating, "The heatsink works well. I’ve used it for hours without any overheating issues." However, a few users noted that the heatsink’s effectiveness depends on proper airflow in the system. "If your case has poor ventilation, the heatsink might not be enough," warned a reviewer.

Conclusion: Is the Transcend MTE255S Worth It?

The Transcend 1TB MTE255S M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4x4 SSD is a mixed bag. On one hand, it delivers exceptional speed, easy installation, and effective cooling, making it a strong contender for gamers and professionals. On the other hand, its reliability issues and inconsistent durability have left some users frustrated.

Final Verdict: If you’re looking for a high-speed SSD with advanced cooling and don’t mind taking a slight risk on longevity, the Transcend MTE255S could be a great choice. However, if reliability is your top priority, you might want to explore other options. For those who do take the plunge, Transcend’s customer service seems to be a saving grace in case of issues.

: it didn't even last a year, the 5years warranty is worthless and cannot be used

Im using it on my ps5, it broke quickly after a few months.: it didn't even last a year, the 5years warranty is worthless and cannot be used

5 years of use with S

My drive started failing after 1.5 years of use with S.M.A.R.T Media and Data Integrity Errors increasing over 10'000 in a few days. I was able to rescue most of my data, but it appears that reliability is an issue with this drive, which also seems to be supported by many other reviews on here. I would avoid this drive.
