Pros: What Customers Love About the Vansuny 500GB Portable External SSD
1. Blazing-Fast Speeds
Many users praised the SSD for its impressive transfer speeds. One customer mentioned, "I couldn't get it to top 250MB per second in a test environment, but the real transfer rate was closer to 230MB/s, which is still absurdly fast for a USB device." Another user highlighted its performance for cloning drives, saying, "These SSDs are perfect for creating exact clones of my PC drives, including partitions, OS, and hidden files. Never have to worry about computer failures again!"
2. Compact and Portable Design
The SSD's sleek, palm-sized design was a hit among reviewers. One user shared, "It’s small, sleek, and offers a lot of additional storage space. I got these for our MacBook Airs, and they worked without any issues." Its lightweight and durable metal body make it easy to carry around, whether you're traveling or working on the go.
3. Versatile Compatibility
The Vansuny SSD works seamlessly with a variety of devices and operating systems. A customer noted, "It’s compatible with Windows, Mac OS, and Android systems, making it a versatile choice for all my devices." Another user added, "I use it to transfer videos from my phone to my iPad, and it works like a charm."
4. Durable and Reliable
The SSD's shockproof, waterproof, and wear-resistant features impressed many users. One reviewer said, "The metal body feels sturdy, and I don’t have to worry about damaging it during travel." Another customer appreciated its heat dissipation capabilities, stating, "The sleek design ensures it stays cool even during heavy use."
5. Great Value for Money
Several customers highlighted the SSD's affordability compared to other brands. One user exclaimed, "WOW!! These SSDs are SOOOOO COOOOL! I purchased three 500GB drives and one 1TB drive for everyday backups. Great value for the price!"
Cons: Areas Where the Vansuny SSD Falls Short
1. Inconsistent Speeds
While many users praised the SSD's speed, some reported inconsistent performance. One customer mentioned, "I couldn’t get it to top 250MB per second in a test environment, and the real transfer rate was closer to 230MB/s." This suggests that the advertised speeds may not always be achievable in real-world usage.
2. Formatting Issues
A few users encountered problems with formatting the drive. One reviewer shared, "Windows says that 'this drive needs to be formatted before you can use it.' I had some important things on that drive, but all can be recovered from other drives." Another user noted, "It hates being formatted as WBFS and struggled with FAT32, but it works fine as exFAT and NTFS."
3. File Recovery Challenges
Some customers faced difficulties recovering files after formatting issues. One user lamented, "Every free file recovery service I use either can’t find the files or locks most of them behind a paywall." This could be a concern for users who rely on the SSD for critical data storage.
4. Brand Reputation Concerns
A few reviewers expressed skepticism about the brand. One customer stated, "Never buying from some sketchy company like Vansuny again." Another user pointed out, "The box of a JOIOT internal SATA SSD looked exactly the same as this box, which makes me think this is one of those times when a company makes multiple brands to avoid a bad rep."
Final Thoughts: Is the Vansuny 500GB Portable External SSD Worth It?
The Vansuny 500GB Portable External SSD is a solid choice for anyone seeking a fast, durable, and portable storage solution. Its compact design, versatile compatibility, and impressive speeds make it a favorite among professionals and casual users alike. However, inconsistent performance, formatting issues, and concerns about brand reputation may give some buyers pause.

If you’re looking for an affordable, high-speed SSD with excellent portability and durability, the Vansuny 500GB Portable External SSD is a great option. Just be mindful of potential formatting challenges and ensure you back up your data regularly to avoid any hiccups. Comments from Amazon:
WOW!! These SSDs are SOOOOO COOOOL, I purchased three 500 Gig drives and one 1TB drive for everyday backups! I wanted a device to EXCLUSIVELY keep an individual "CLONE" of each of my two PC's drives, with NO additional backups allowed on either one! They worked GREAT right out of the box!!! When you need to replace EVERYTHING to EXACTLY the way it was (partitions, OS, hidden files, everything!), THESE MIGHTY MOUSE SSDs ARE P-E-R-F-E-C-T! ... along with some cloning software. Never have to worry EVER again about computer failures, theft, or damage! Plus, these SSDs can be easily hidden and/or stored offsite. Video is backing up a PC to this 1TB SSD ... max write is 550 MB/Second, faster with compression! (see video).
I couldn't get it to top 250MB per second in test environment, real transfer rate was closer to 230MB /s which is still absurdly fast for a USB device. In NTFS you get 238.45GB, it shows up as a JMicron Tech SCSI Disk Device. Inside you will find a custom printed board, the USB-C connector has 4 well soldered joints holding it down. The JMS901 UFS-USB Bridge Controller is made by JMicron. The memory inside is interesting. The San Disk SDINDDH4-256G 256G-byte Embedded iNAND UFS 2.1 aka MC EU311, according to Western Digital whitepapers it is made as top of line flagship cellphone memory with a unit cost of $10 this company isn't getting rich off of these. Due to the unique nature of this device it hates being formatted as WBFS, it struggled with FAT32. It works fine and dandy as exFAT and NTFS though.
Easy to transfer videos from my phone to my iPad
I have only had the drive for about a week, and windows says that "this drive needs to eb formatted before you can use it." I had some important things on that drive, but all can be recovered from other drives(this one just consolidated all of them) and from the cloud. Never buying from some sketchy company like VANSUNY again. I also saw that the box of a JOIOT internal SATA SSD looked exactly the same as this box, which leads me to think that this is one of those times when a company makes multiple brands(i needed the SATA SSD for a project that failed, not because of the SSD) and has each selling the same products, just so only 1 brand at a time gets a bad rep instead of the whole company. Every free file recovery service i use can either can not find the files, or lock most of the files on the drive behind a paywall.
Added to an Xbox for extra storage and it works great!
The hard drive works great! I have an HP all in one in the kitchen. It's great as it saves space and can get my recipes, etc. Instead of opening it up to put in internal, I bought this hard drive and installed Windows 11 on the external drive. The computer performance is much much much better. Hard drive performs perfectly. Definitely recommended.
This thing works so well that I bought another. It’s small, sleek and offers a lot of additional storage space. Got these for our MacBook Airs and worked without any issues. Great value for the price!
