UGREEN NASync DXP4800 4-Bay Desktop NAS Review: A Powerhouse for Storage and Speed

The overall experience of using UGREEN NASync DXP4800 is quite good, but there are some minor shortcomings. Its performance is very powerful, and the combination of DDR5 memory and Intel N100 quad-core processor makes file transfer and reading and writing speeds very fast. The network port configuration is also very practical, which can meet the needs of home and small studios. In actual use, its noise is well controlled and almost no sound can be heard during operation. The aluminum alloy shell is not only beautiful, but also has good heat dissipation effect. However, although it supports multiple RAID modes, the installation process may be a little complicated for novices. Overall, this is a very cost-effective NAS device, suitable for users who need large-capacity storage and high-speed transmission, but there are certain requirements for the installation process

I have my NAS carrying 27tb of storage. The Ugreen NAS works very well and is very responsive. I've upgraded it to 32gb of RAM just because I can, and also thrown in 2 1tb M.2 SSD's for cache. Well worth the money.

Simple to setup. Add drives, create a users and map the drive. Create folders, store your files, data, pictures in one location that all computers on the network can access. I have used other NAS and this is clean and easy to use. I currently have no need to use the apps. Very pleased with this purchase.

Great product

Let me preface this by saying I'm no networking expert. I installed this on my home network to see how easy it is to install. I'll customize it after I explore a little more about using Docker. I assume if you're looking into this purchase that you have an idea what a NAS is and what you want to use it for. If you just want to setup a simple network attached storage pool for backups and media streaming, this is very easy to setup. You can install up to 4 drives in the bays and two additional NVME drives in the bottom. The bays slide out for easy hard drive installation. 3.5" drives require no hardware, while 2.5" drives require 4 screws and a screwdriver, all included with the device. You can start with one volume and add additional volumes later. Memory is also upgradeable, but the 8GB this comes with is sufficient for my needs. There are two Ethernet ports, one 2.5 Gbps and one 10 Gbps, and you can connect both to your router or switch for load balancing. Setup was fairly straightforward. I installed a 10TB HDD in bay 1 and a 2TB SATA SSD in bay 2. Connect the ethernet cable and the power cable and press the power button. My router apps couldn't find the NAS initially, so I downloaded the UGreen NAS app just to get the IP address and used the web interface to finish setup. There are quick start guides as you start running the interface and I suggest you follow the guides for your initial setup. You can change things later if you don't like your initial choices. Create a storage pool, create volumes and install apps. Ugreen has good tutorials on their website and there are many Youtube videos explaining the various options. If you want you could even use a different NAS OS like TrueNAS and not even worry about the Ugreen OS. That's beyond my current needs, but if you're looking to use this in a test lab to learn various LAN software and want to experiment, this is basically a normal Intel based PC with a place to connect up to 6 drives. If you want to use currently owned drives, be aware that the setup process will erase them. I would install a blank new drive and copy the old drives files over using an external USB drive if you need to keep the data from the old drive. This gets pretty noisy when large amounts of data are being transferred, so you might want to consider where you place this carefully. I wouldn't put it atop a reflective surface or in a cabinet due to noise amplification, and you probably don't want to put it too close to your TV or stereo if you want to use this as a media server. Someone has posted a video how to dampen the noise a little using the foam the NAS is shipped in and some speaker isolation disks if you find the noise too annoying, but it didn't bother me all that much.

This 4-bay NAS from UGREEN exceeded my expectations. I have been using two and four bay NAS devices for my home and small business networks for a long time. Each year they get better, and the feature sets improve. The people at UGREEN have incorporated just about every major modern feature that you would want in a 4-bay NAS, for just under $500 at the time of ordering. This is a great value for what you are getting. The controller is a genuine Intel powerhouse, and you can really see how fast it is when you are using the web interface. There is no lag when you make your choices, and the screens fly up like it was a local computer. Serving data, I found it to be limited only by your network. I have a 1 GB network, and this drive used it at capacity. I have a notebook computer that has a 2.5GB connection, and it too worked at full capacity when plugged into the drive. I only have a few computers to run tests, but I did huge file downloads/uploads from all computers to the NAS at the same time, and again, the network was the bottleneck, not the drive. The user interface is straight forward, if you know what you are doing. If you don't know much about RAID and/or setting up a NAS, then you will probably want to go to YouTube for some tutorials, because the documentation can be lacking for those wanting more hand holding. I'm an old pro when it comes to these sort of things, and had no issues at all and in fact, didn't need the documentation at all. This was my first experience with UGREEN for higher end IT hardware, and they have made me a believer. Five Star Full Featured yet Budget Priced Four Bay NAS Drive

I wanted a NAS to backup important files and also to use as a streaming device. This NAS is more than capable of doing this and more. This NAS supports four drive bays (either 3.5" HDDs or 2.5" HDD/SSDs) and two M.2 NVMe SSDs. For my setup, I configured two 3.5" HDDs as a RAID 1 drive and I used a single 2.5" HDD to hold files for streaming videos. Installation and configuring the NAS was very easy. I found the menus simple to navigate and to configure. I was able to get the NAS up and running in just over an hour. Data transfer to and from the NAS is very fast. Looking at the running statistics, I was experiencing a bottle neck that seems to come from the HDD (which is a really old drive). During my transfers I was able to upload and download many 6.5 GB files (at least 20x) without trouble. At no point during the transfer (either to or from the NAS) did I encounter any errors. I have a Cisco switch and when I looked at the port statistics, it did not report any packet errors. Video streaming was a snap. I used a single 2.5" HDD drive to stream videos, mainly because I don't need to save these file in a RAID format and I had an extra old drive. With the old drive revised, I have an excellent streaming device. This disk running on the NAS had no lag during video playback. This NAS supports two LAN connections. With the dual LAN, I was able to see the performance increase on a download, versus when I was using a single LAN. I had two different notebooks downloading files and from the runtime statistics, I could see both LAN connections actively downloading files. This definitely helps reduce any LAN bottlenecks on the NAS. The NAS is a solid design. The aluminum case feels solid, with a smooth finish. The drive bay doors can be opened quickly by pressing the latch that releases the tray handle. Use the tray handle to remove and insert the drive tray. A key is included to lock the tray from accidental or malicious access. The drive tray is well designed for 3.5" drives. With this tray design, no screws are required to lock the hard drive onto the tray. Unfortunately for 2.5" drives, screws are still required to secure the drive to the tray. Screws and a screwdriver are included to help with this installation. The NAS runs quiet. I see one large 6" fan (although there may be more inside). Even with the large fan running, the NAS still runs quiet. The NAS supports one SD card interface and multiple USB interfaces. With these interfaces, I can easily and quickly move files to and from to the various storage devices. For instance, my camera uses an SD card. I am able to backup my photos directly to the NAS. My family can now easily view the photos. One feature that's lacking, that would have been nice to have, is to be able to view the contents of the drive prior to NAS use. When I inserted the drive into the NAS, I wanted to know what information was written to the drive so that I could determine whether I should save some the files prior to having the drive formatted for NAS use. This NAS does not have that capability. Otherwise, this NAS is a great addition for any data storage needs.
