Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
1. Performance and Compatibility
One of the standout features of this hard drive is its seamless compatibility with TeraStation NAS systems. Customers have praised its ability to integrate smoothly into their existing setups. For example, one user mentioned that the drive "worked perfectly in my NAS" and appreciated the "good price and fast shipping." Another user confirmed its compatibility with the TS3420D model, stating that it "worked great on a TS3420D376 (TS3420D)."
However, some users noted that the Buffalo firmware could be more intuitive. One reviewer shared their experience: "You need to create a new RAID drive. I was hoping if I added them to the existing RAID, it would know to add them in series. The software did not figure that out, or explicitly ask, causing me to have to remove the RAID and create two separate RAID arrays." While the drives themselves performed well, the firmware's limitations required some manual intervention.
2. Durability and Reliability
The BUFFALO Replacement Hard Drive is built for NAS-grade reliability, meaning it’s designed to handle continuous operation. Customers have highlighted its durability, with one user stating that the drives "worked perfectly" and had "no complaints." Another user, who needed the drive for data recovery, appreciated the "fast delivery" and noted that it was "essential for their needs."
The 3-year manufacturer warranty also adds an extra layer of confidence, ensuring that you’re covered in case of any issues.
3. Ease of Installation
Installing the drive is straightforward, especially if you’re familiar with NAS systems. However, as mentioned earlier, the firmware could be more user-friendly. One user expressed their frustration with the process: "The software wasn’t as smart as I was hoping it would be." While the physical installation is simple, the RAID configuration process might require some technical know-how.
4. Value for Money
Many customers have praised the affordable price of the BUFFALO Replacement Hard Drive, especially considering its NAS-grade quality and 2TB capacity. One reviewer described it as a "good price" and appreciated the "fast shipping." For those looking to upgrade their TeraStation NAS without breaking the bank, this drive offers excellent value.
Conclusion: Is the BUFFALO Replacement Spare Hard Drive 2TB Worth It?
The BUFFALO Replacement Spare Hard Drive 2TB is a reliable and cost-effective solution for upgrading or replacing your TeraStation NAS drives. Its seamless compatibility, durable build, and ample storage capacity make it a great choice for both personal and professional use.
However, the firmware could be more intuitive, particularly when configuring RAID arrays. If you’re comfortable with manual setup or have some technical expertise, this shouldn’t be a dealbreaker.
Final Verdict:
- Pros: Affordable, reliable, NAS-grade durability, fast shipping, and excellent compatibility.
- Cons: Firmware could be more user-friendly for RAID configuration.
If you’re in need of a dependable replacement drive for your TeraStation NAS, the BUFFALO Replacement Spare Hard Drive 2TB is a solid investment. Just be prepared to spend a little extra time configuring the RAID setup if needed.

It worked great on a TS3420D376 (TS3420D). The only issue was with the Buffalo firmware. You need to create a new raid drive. I was hoping if I added them to the existing raid it would know to add them in series. The SW did not figure that out, or explicitly ask causing me to have to remove the raid and create two separate raid arrays. Drives are good, Buffalo SW wasn't as smart as I was hoping it would be.
