DATO 1TB SSD M.2 2230 NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 Review: A Speedy and Compact Storage Solution

Upgrade your storage game with the DATO 1TB SSD M.2 2230 NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 Internal Solid State Drive. This compact yet powerful SSD is designed to deliver blazing-fast speeds of up to 2500/1700 MB/s, making it an excellent choice for gamers, professionals, and tech enthusiasts. With its M.2 2230 form factor, it’s compatible with a wide range of devices, including laptops, desktops, gaming consoles like the STEAM Deck, and even compact PCs like the Raspberry Pi 5.

Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying

Performance and Speed

One of the standout features of the DATO DP330 Series SSD is its impressive speed. Customers have praised its ability to handle data-intensive tasks with ease. One user mentioned, "I’ve been using this SSD on a very active Raspberry Pi 5 for several months without any issues. It’s very fast and has no hiccups." Another customer installed it in their HP laptop and noted a significant improvement in storage capacity and performance.

However, some users reported that the drive tends to heat up quickly, especially in devices with limited cooling. One reviewer shared, "The drive reached 66°C repeatedly and even hit 72°C while running benchmarks. It seems to throttle itself above 60°C." To mitigate this, they recommended adding a heat sink and ensuring proper cooling.

Compatibility and Installation

The DATO SSD’s M.2 2230 form factor makes it highly versatile, but compatibility can vary depending on the device. A customer successfully installed it in a Gmktec Nucbox G5, achieving decent speeds and performance. They shared their installation tips, including ensuring 4k alignment, changing the boot order in BIOS, and enabling fast boot.

On the flip side, not all devices are compatible. One disappointed user noted, "It did not work for the Xbox X; the console didn’t recognize it." This highlights the importance of checking compatibility before purchasing.

Durability and Build Quality

The DATO SSD is built to last, with a shock-resistant design that ensures durability for both portable and stationary use. Customers have praised its reliability and energy-efficient operation, which keeps it running quietly without compromising performance.

However, the drive’s tendency to overheat in certain setups could be a concern for long-term durability. One user mentioned, "I’m going to keep it, but I’ll add a heat sink to prevent overheating."

Value for Money

Many customers appreciate the affordable price of the DATO SSD, especially when combined with sales and coupons. One reviewer said, "The price is good for the storage capacity, and I would even be willing to buy another one."

However, some felt that the price could be slightly lower. A customer commented, "Quick delivery, product fits, but it could be a little cheaper."

Conclusion: Is the DATO 1TB SSD Worth It?

The DATO 1TB SSD M.2 2230 NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 is a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their storage with a fast, reliable, and compact SSD. Its blazing-fast speeds, versatile compatibility, and durable build make it a standout option for gamers, professionals, and tech enthusiasts.

However, potential buyers should be aware of its heating issues in devices with limited cooling and ensure compatibility with their specific setup. Adding a heat sink or ensuring proper ventilation can help mitigate overheating concerns.

Final Verdict:

If you’re looking for an affordable, high-performance SSD that delivers on speed and reliability, the DATO DP330 Series is a great choice. Just make sure to check compatibility and consider additional cooling solutions for optimal performance.

Comments from Amazon:

Have been using this for several months on a very active Raspberry PI 5 without any issues.

very fast no hic ups installed in a new HP laptop to up storage from 260 to 512.

It took me several tries, including multiple cloning apricorn, fresh Windows 11 installs, and finally cloning of the mSATA drive I’ve been using for a month with easeus followed by a 4k alignment

I installed this 512gb capacity in a Gmktec Nucbox G5 which is 3x2 and the speeds are decent and it works well. It took me several tries, including multiple cloning apricorn, fresh Windows 11 installs, and finally cloning of the mSATA drive I’ve been using for a month with easeus followed by a 4k alignment. The drive heats up quickly and this mini pc doesn’t have the best cooling capacity. The drive reached 66*c repeatedly and even saw 72*c while running diskmark. It seems to throttle itself above 60*c. I am not sure what caused the issues and decided to give it one last try before returning it. My initial poor and final best diskmark results are shown in the photo. Best results were achieved by running the tests individually and then waiting for the drive to drop back to about 36*c I’m going to keep it. I’m going to add a heat sink and I would even be willing to buy another one of these drives as the price is good for the storage capacity especially with sale and coupons. Tips for installing would be to ensure you have 4k alignment, change the boot order in your bios to put the nvme first, enable fast boot and if your socket is also mSATA you may want to disable the SATA device in bios as this helped me.

Quick delivery, product fits but can be little cheaper.
