Ximimark Internal Hard Disk Drive Enclosure Replacement HDD Caddy Case Shell for Xbox 360 Slim: A Comprehensive Review
If you're an Xbox 360 Slim owner looking to upgrade or replace your hard drive enclosure, the Ximimark Internal Hard Disk Drive Enclosure Replacement HDD Caddy Case Shell might be the solution you need. Designed for compatibility with 20GB, 60GB, 120GB, 250GB, 320GB, and 500GB hard drives, this 2-pack set offers a durable and functional way to expand your console's storage. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.
Pros and Cons: What Customers Are Saying
1. Build Quality and Durability
The Ximimark HDD caddy case shell is praised for its durable design, made from high-quality materials that resist high temperatures and pressure. Many users appreciate its ability to withstand long-term use, especially when compared to cheaper alternatives. However, some customers note that the material feels slightly cheap and caution against rough handling. One reviewer mentioned, "Be careful when snapping it together, because you can break the clips that hold it in place."
While the case is sturdy enough for regular use, it’s not indestructible. A drop could potentially damage it, so handle it with care.
2. Compatibility and Fit
One of the standout features of this product is its precision fit. Customers consistently report that the caddy case shell fits perfectly into the Xbox 360 Slim, just like the original OEM part. One user shared, "Fits just like the factory drive in the system, so I am happy with the purchase."
The case also works well with SSDs, making it a versatile option for those looking to upgrade their storage. However, it’s worth noting that not all SSDs are compatible with the Xbox 360 system itself. As one reviewer pointed out, "The system simply does not see it. Unlike the PS3/4, the Xbox will not simply take whatever drive you throw at it." This is more of a system limitation than a fault of the product.
3. Ease of Use
The Ximimark HDD caddy case shell is designed for easy installation. Most users found the assembly process straightforward, though some noted that the tabs and clips require careful handling. One reviewer advised, "The tabs are small, so I would recommend using caution as I imagine they could be easy to snap off."
Once assembled, the case slides effortlessly into the Xbox 360 Slim’s hard drive bay. A user shared, "Slid right into an Xbox 360E hard drive bay with little effort, and pulling on the ribbon pulls it right out." This makes it a convenient option for those who frequently swap drives or need to test multiple drives.
4. Value for Money
The fact that this product comes in a 2-pack is a major plus for many customers. Having a spare case is handy for backups or additional storage needs. One user commented, "They come in a two-pack so I have a spare. They come in a two-pack so you have a bonus if you want another drive for something."
At its price point, the Ximimark HDD caddy case shell offers excellent value, especially when compared to OEM replacements. However, some users felt that the material could be more robust for the price, with one reviewer stating, "Funciona, pero el material es muy simple, una caída y seguro se rompe." (It works, but the material is very simple; a drop and it will surely break.)
5. Versatility
This product is ideal for two main scenarios:
- Transferring an old Xbox 360 hard drive to a newer Slim model. As one user explained, "You have an old phat Xbox and want to use the HDD in your newer Xbox. Caution: Do NOT format the drive, as it has special drivers that allow it to work."
- Replacing a cracked or damaged OEM case. If your original case is broken, this is a cost-effective replacement.
However, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. As mentioned earlier, compatibility with SSDs depends on the Xbox 360 system’s limitations, so do your research before making the switch.
Conclusion: Is It Worth It?
The Ximimark Internal Hard Disk Drive Enclosure Replacement HDD Caddy Case Shell is a reliable and affordable solution for Xbox 360 Slim owners looking to upgrade or replace their hard drive enclosures. Its durable design, precise fit, and ease of use make it a standout choice, especially when compared to pricier OEM options. The inclusion of a 2-pack adds extra value, giving you a spare for future needs.
However, the product isn’t without its flaws. The material, while durable, feels slightly cheap to some users, and the small tabs and clips require careful handling during assembly. Additionally, compatibility with SSDs is limited by the Xbox 360 system itself, so this isn’t the product’s fault but something to keep in mind.
Final Verdict: If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to expand or replace your Xbox 360 Slim’s hard drive enclosure, the Ximimark HDD caddy case shell is an excellent choice. Just handle it with care, and you’ll have a functional and stylish addition to your gaming setup.

Comments from Amazon:
They work with an SSD no issues. Picked them up to do an upgrade on an RGH'd slim. They come in a two pack so I have a spare. They come in a two pack so you have a bonus if you want another drive for something. Fits just like the factory drive in the system so I am happy with the purchase.
As good as original fit. They can be used with the cover off, if you need to remove the drive while testing or have multiple drives you want to use. Once the cover is in place, it's difficult to remove, and easily damaged.
Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Holds your drive in place and fits perfectly into slot. However you can feel the cheapness with this. Be careful when snapping it together, because you can break the clips that hold it in place.
Placed a 1TB SSD into one of these and it snapped together just fine. Note that the top with the tabs only goes on ONE way; look closely at the spacing of the tabs on the top piece and then look at the main piece that holds the HDD and you'll see how the top needs to be oriented before assembly (see attached photo). The tabs are small, so I would recommend using caution as I imagine they could be easy to snap off. Slid right into an Xbox 360E hard drive bay with little effort, and pulling on the ribbon pulls it right out. I did not have an OEM HDD to compare it to, but it does precisely what I needed it to! No more using pliers to remove the drive!
So this product is for 1 of 2 situations: 1. You have an old phat xbox and want to use the HDD in your newer xbox, (Caution do NOT format the drive, it has special drivers on it that allow it to work and once they are gone they are gone forever!) 2. You have a hard drive from a current xbox and the case is cracked. one situation that I was unsuccessful in accomplishing was using an SSD in this case, I was buying it to replace my older 120GB mechanical drive with a 120 GB SSD. This was a no-go, The system simply does not see it. Unlike the PS3/4 the xbox will not simply take what ever drive you throw at it. Not a fault of this product more of research! I got 2 of these and they are both perfect matches for the OEM and did exactly what they were meant to.
Fantastic product, well made and easy to transfer your original Xbox 360 hard drive into your Xbox 360 slim, now I can play all my backwards compatible original Xbox games on my slim. I will be buying more of these great cases.
