Addlink A93 1TB Gaming PC PS5 SSD with Heatsink: A Gamer’s Dream or Overhyped Upgrade?

If you’re a gamer looking to upgrade your PS5 or gaming PC storage, the Addlink A93 1TB Gaming PC PS5 SSD with Heatsink might have caught your eye. With its impressive specs—up to 7200 MB/s read speeds, 6100 MB/s write speeds, and a pre-installed heatsink—it promises to deliver top-tier performance at a fraction of the cost of big-name brands. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into the details based on real customer experiences.

Pros and Cons: What Gamers Are Saying

1. Performance: Speed and Reliability

The Addlink A93 is marketed as a high-speed SSD, and it doesn’t disappoint. Many users have praised its performance, especially when compared to more expensive alternatives like the WD_BLACK. One customer noted that they saw read speeds of just over 6900 MB/s after installation, which is impressive for a PS5 SSD. Another user mentioned that they transferred nearly 1TB of data in just 10 minutes, showcasing its efficiency.

However, some users pointed out that the PS5 itself bottlenecks the SSD’s performance. Sony limits the read and write speeds of any SSD installed in the PS5, regardless of its maximum capabilities. So, while the Addlink A93 can theoretically reach 7200 MB/s, you won’t see those speeds on a PS5. That said, this isn’t a fault of the SSD but rather a limitation imposed by Sony.

Key Takeaway

The Addlink A93 delivers excellent performance, but don’t expect it to hit its maximum speeds on a PS5 due to Sony’s restrictions.

2. Price: A Budget-Friendly Option

One of the standout features of the Addlink A93 is its affordability. Multiple customers highlighted that it’s $30-$50 cheaper than comparable SSDs from bigger brands like WD_BLACK. One user even mentioned that they returned a faulty WD_BLACK SSD and opted for the Addlink A93 instead, saving money without sacrificing performance.

Another customer shared that they snagged the 4TB version at a discounted price, making it an even better deal. For gamers on a budget, the Addlink A93 offers a compelling combination of performance and value.

Key Takeaway

If you’re looking for a high-performance SSD without breaking the bank, the Addlink A93 is a fantastic choice.

3. Installation: Easy but Not Perfect

Most users found the installation process straightforward and hassle-free. The plug-and-play design and pre-installed heatsink make it a convenient option for those who want to avoid the extra step of adding a heatsink themselves. One customer described the installation as a “5-minute job,” which is a huge plus for gamers who aren’t tech-savvy.

However, there were a few hiccups. One user reported issues with the PS5’s metal cover interfering with the SSD, requiring them to add paper insulation to prevent contact. Another mentioned that the SSD’s heatsink caused the PS5’s metal separator plate to tilt, which required some adjustments. While these issues were minor and easily resolved, they’re worth noting for potential buyers.

Key Takeaway

Installation is generally easy, but you might need to make minor adjustments depending on your PS5 model.

4. Durability and Longevity

The Addlink A93 is built with TLC 3D NAND technology and features like SLC Caching, LDPC ECC, and Thermal Throttling, which ensure durability and long-term reliability. Many users praised its ability to handle intense gaming sessions without overheating, thanks to the aluminum heatsink and heat-conducting gel pad.

That said, one user pointed out that the SSD is DRAM-less, which they didn’t realize at the time of purchase. While this doesn’t significantly impact performance for most users, it’s something to consider if you’re looking for an SSD with DRAM for specific use cases.

Key Takeaway

The Addlink A93 is durable and reliable, but it’s DRAM-less, which might be a drawback for some users.

5. Compatibility and Versatility

The Addlink A93 is compatible with a wide range of devices, including PS5, PCs, and laptops. One user even mentioned using it for dual-booting Linux and Windows, with no issues in performance or compatibility. Its versatility makes it a great option for gamers and tech enthusiasts alike.

Key Takeaway

Whether you’re upgrading your PS5 or PC, the Addlink A93 is a versatile SSD that works seamlessly across multiple platforms.

Conclusion: Is the Addlink A93 Worth It?

The Addlink A93 1TB Gaming PC PS5 SSD with Heatsink is a solid choice for gamers looking to upgrade their storage without spending a fortune. It delivers excellent performance, is easy to install, and comes with a 5-year warranty for added peace of mind. While it has a few minor drawbacks—like the PS5’s speed bottleneck and the need for slight adjustments during installation—it’s a reliable and budget-friendly option that outperforms many pricier alternatives.

Final Verdict

If you’re in the market for a high-performance SSD that won’t break the bank, the Addlink A93 is a no-brainer. It’s fast, durable, and versatile, making it a great investment for both casual and hardcore gamers.

So, that's definitely a major plus, as well the fact that you don't have the hassle of having to add a heatsink since it's already preinstalled (though it's really not overly complicated, I've done so before with my previous 1TB SSD I had installed before)

First off, this is a great price to performance option for upgradeable storage for your PS5, it's on par with the bigger brands in performance and undercuts the competition by quite a bit (anywhere from $30-$50). So, that's definitely a major plus, as well the fact that you don't have the hassle of having to add a heatsink since it's already preinstalled (though it's really not overly complicated, I've done so before with my previous 1TB SSD I had installed before). Nothing too crazy, you go through the steps and everything goes together without a hitch, works perfectly fine and I've successfully tripled my storage. Definitely not running out of space anytime soon, thank god! Now, to address previous reviews docking it for not reaching the "up to 7200mb read speeds" in the PS5, just as a heads up, Sony has the PS5 bottleneck the read and write speeds with ANY SSD that can exceed the minimum 5500mb requirements to whatever the current allowable read and write speeds are. So, don't go expecting to get that 7200mb speeds at this point. It's NOT the fault of the SSD and the manufacturer, that's on Sony and the PS5 at this moment in time. The SSD works plenty fine as is regardless. Just a heads up to anyone letting that one detail hold you up on whether to get this SSD upgrade for your PS5, it doesn't matter what speeds you can get up to it, it's what the current maximum speed is set for with the PS5 at this given moment. Highly recommend this one, especially at this price point, the convenience of use and performance. Definitely grab when you have the chance, prices have never been better for M.2 NVME SSD storage and this one trumps the majority of the competition! 👍

I've experienced no noticeable difference in speed/processing or game reliability

I bought the WD_BLACK for my first PS5, and this Addlink for my 2nd. I've experienced no noticeable difference in speed/processing or game reliability. And for a far cheaper price!. The 2nd WD_BLACK i purchased, did NOT work. So I sent it back and ordered this instead. Works great!

Switched all ps5 games and add on over in 10 minutes nearly 1tb of data

Easy installation and formatting with no issues. Switched all ps5 games and add on over in 10 minutes nearly 1tb of data. Read rate was just over 6900. Overall would recommend. Paid 110.00

Fast, cheap, efficient, AND durable—what more could you ask for? With other SSDs rising in price lately, this remains a hidden gem that performs well in all categories, especially on laptops, where every bit of power usage counts! Dual booting Linux and Windows works flawlessly, with plenty of space and speed for both!

I was able to swing the 4TB in place of the 2TB

I caught this on a screaming deal. I was able to swing the 4TB in place of the 2TB. Install was quick, within minutes I was up, running, transferred some games and was left very happy with the purchase.

I also had to put some paper insulation under the plate so it wouldn't touch the metal of the PS5, since when I put the stainless steel separator on the PS5, the plate would tilt upwards and it wouldn't work well

I only had one problem with the metal cover of the PS5 itself, since the SSD doesn't work, I had to remove it. I also had to put some paper insulation under the plate so it wouldn't touch the metal of the PS5, since when I put the stainless steel separator on the PS5, the plate would tilt upwards and it wouldn't work well. Once these details were resolved, it worked perfectly, with 4.10 TB of available space, fantastic.

Installation was about a 5 minute job

Packaging and product condition were perfect. Installation was about a 5 minute job. Read speeds clocked at 5450 once installed and configured on the Ps5. Don't seem to notice any decrease in gameplay performance. Write speed is incredibly slow, though. Didn't realize this was DRAM-less when I purchased, but that was my mistake. Still performs admirable at the $117 price point for 2TB.
